  • Steelwrist will showcase its third-generation XTR tiltrotators and the SQ40 fully automatic coupler system at the SaMoTer exhibition in Italy.

  • The XTR10 model, designed for 6–10 ton excavators, offers enhanced performance, durability, and advanced technology for improved efficiency.

  • The SQ40 system enables compact excavator operators to change hydraulic tools quickly and safely without leaving the cab, increasing machine utilization.

  • Steelwrist supports the Open-S industry standard, promoting compatibility and safety across different manufacturers' couplers and work tools.

Steelwrist is set to exhibit at the SaMoTer trade show in Verona, Italy, May 6-9, for the first time. This major Italian exhibition covers all construction equipment sectors, but calls the earthmoving sector “the soul of the exhibition for over sixty years”. It is on this arena that Steelwrist will present advanced tiltrotator technology and fully automatic coupler systems, that together with hydraulic and mechanical work tools bring true earthmoving efficiency for excavators. Steelwrist XTR third-generation tiltrotators of different sizes will be shown, and the SQ40 fully automatic coupler system for compact excavators can be experienced in a live demonstration.

Commitment to efficiency for excavators

In 2025 Steelwrist celebrated 20 years in business. Founded in Sweden back in 2005 manufacturing tiltrotators, quick couplers and work tools for excavators, the company has grown significantly since then, quickly becoming the global player it is today, represented with its own organization in over 19 countries. Customers are served through an extensive network of dealers and servicepartners. In Italy, Steelwrist is present with its own organization since 2017.

The goal back then was the same as it is today, to be the “best in the world at developing, manufacturing and selling equipment to increase the efficiency of excavators”. The tiltrotator is the centre-piece in the company’s offering, the concept has proven to be the key that truly unlocks the efficiency of an excavator. With 360 degrees rotation and 45 degrees tilt in both directions, the tiltrotator allows the operator to do more types of jobs, be faster and work with greater precision. Operators also say it makes the job more fun!

Continued expansion of the third generation tiltrotators with the launch of XTR10

At the recent CONEXPO-CON/AGG exhibition in USA, Steelwrist introduced the XTR10 tiltrotator, the latest addition to the range of third-generation tiltrotators. Designed for excavators in the 6–10 ton segment and replacing the previous X12 model, the XTR10 brings the same performance improvements, durability enhancements and advanced technology introduced with the larger XTR models. Contractors in this size class often run multiple attachments daily, making quick attachment changes a major efficiency factor.

With cast steel components, optimized tilt geometry and high torque rotation, the XTR generation delivers precision and smooth operation while maintaining compact build height. The platform also includes Steelwrist’s LockSense safety system, OptiLube onboard lubrication and high-resolution sensors for machine control system integration.

“With the third generation XTR tiltrotators we have taken a major technology step forward, and the market response has been very strong. Launching five models within 24 months and already surpassing 1,000 units sold confirms that contractors value the efficiency improvements that directly impact their daily machine utilization," says Stefan Stockhaus, Steelwrist CEO.

Visitors to the Steelwrist stand at SaMoTer will see three models in the company's third generation tiltrotator program, the models on display are XTR20 and XTR23, and the XTR15 is part of the live demonstration. In addition to the Steelwrist stand, visitors can go to the Volvo Construction Equipment stand to see a Volvo EWR150-F, an excavator with the standardized MiC 4.0 CAN bus protocol for controlling work tools, equipped with an XTR20 tiltrotator that is MiC 4.0 BUS-READY. Tiltrotators and attachments can be registered as "MiC 4.0 BUS-READY", to be easily installed on MiC 4.0-ready excavators.

SQ40 fully automatic coupler system for compact excavators

Steelwrist will present the SQ40 fully automatic quick coupler solution, a system designed for excavators in the 4–7 ton range — a segment widely used in landscaping, utility and general construction. The SQ40 technology enables operators to change hydraulic work tools without leaving the cab. The system provides flow capacity up to 70 liters per minute when used as a machine coupler and 35 liters per minute under the tiltrotator, allowing compact excavators to efficiently run hydraulically powered attachments.

At the Steelwrist demonstration area, an excavator equipped with an X07 tiltrotator with SQ40 will demonstrate how contractors can perform multiple tasks with one machine, reducing downtime and increasing machine utilization. By bringing the SQ40 automatic oil connection technology to compact excavators, Steelwrist targets contractors who rely on their machines for multiple daily tasks.

SQ technology and the Open-S standard

The Steelwrist SQ fully automatic coupler system for excavators was developed as a part of the strategy to create a global standard for automatic oil connections. First introduced on quick couplers, then for adaptor plates and tiltrotators. With the SQ system the operator can change between tiltrotator, hydraulic breaker, crusher, shear, pulverizer, grapple, compactor and any mechanical work tool, without leaving the cab and in only seconds.

Steelwrist believes in open standard interfaces, so the SQ system is designed to connect to other brands using the same type of oil connection system, following the Open-S (OS®) symmetrical standard for automatic quick couplers. Open-S is an industry standard that allows couplers, tiltrotators and work tools from different manufacturers to work together while maintaining safety functions. Open-S Alliance is an independent non-profit organization with the sole purpose of developing and promoting the Open-S standard, supporting equipment compatibility and industry innovation. Steelwrist is a co-founder of the organization.
