  • Strengthened service and spare parts support across the Middle East and Africa

Yanmar is preparing to showcase an exciting range of engines at the upcoming Middle East Electricity show in Dubai, the UAE, from March 6 till March 8 2018. In order to take advantage of the well managed sales and after sales support of Yanmar Europe BV located in The Netherlands, this Regional Head Office has taken over operations in the Middle East and African market from the Headquarters in Japan. To spearhead the new division a new sales management team has been created with Mr. Sidath Weerakoon covering the Middle East and Mr. Emilio Tognetti covering Africa.

Sidath, an 8-year veteran of Yanmar’s genset business, says, “Having 50 years of a successful presence in the Mid-East and Africa we’ve decided to deliver even more dedicated focus on sales, after sales and spare parts support to our current and new OEMs in the region. Over the years we’ve expanded our product line-up to serve various applications, especially in the generator sector. We can offer our OEM customers the prospect of improved parts availability, dedicated after sales service and a focus on the initial sale support.” Also noteworthy is the fact that all engines are offered to the market – variable and fixed speed. These are suitable for broad range of industrial and generator applications.

Three engine series are ready for optimal selection of the use:

  • TNV series: water cooled multi-cylinder; 6kW-88kW

  • L series: air cooled single cylinder; 3kW-9kW

  • TF/TS series: water cooled single cylinder; 4kW-22kW

On display will be the 3TNV88 variable speed engine, up to 28kW vertical cylinder 4 stroke water-cooled diesel engine and the L100N (up to 7kW) variable speed vertical cylinder 4 stroke air-cooled diesel engine.

As part of the development process, Yanmar compared a 4TNV88-B fixed speed unit to a variable speed 3TNV88-B and found that there was an economy improvement of almost 20 per cent at peak power, despite the output being the same.

Emilio, who will operate from his base at Yanmar Italy explains, “We have observed a greater desire for fuel efficiency in the generator market, hence our decision to concentrate on this. It’s a vital part of the overall lifecycle costs OEMs need to keep a lid on. We are very interested in fostering good relationships with the telecoms providers who really value the durability and long service intervals we offer, often due to remote locations of the towers. It’s an exciting time to be in this part of the industry, as there are many new emerging OEMs taking advantage of the booming African telecoms infrastructure expansion and the genset projects unfolding across Mid-East Asia.”

Yanmar has spent decades perfecting small diesel engine design and manufacturing to produce long lasting, durable units with low emissions and a small footprint so they can be mounted in tight spots, ideal qualities for the telecom generator market.

Sidath concludes, “I am looking forward to my time as Middle East sales manager. I have the advantage of being able to offer a superior product so I can ensure our OEM customers have no regrets when buying from us. My previous years’ experience in the power generation industry has given me an understanding of the uniqueness of the market and its current growth potential. It’s my job to make Yanmar the perfect OEM partner!”
