Successful market start with over 15,000 Freightliner Cascadia Evolution ordered in 2013

Stuttgart / Portland, USA – The new product of Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) receives an outstanding response in the market: Since the start of production of the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution in March 2013, Daimler’s U.S. commercial vehicle subsidiary has posted a positive order balance of more than 15,000 heavy-duty trucks in the NAFTA region. DTNA grew its market share in this weight class (NAFTA Class 8) by 6.3% to 38.1% in the first half of 2013 (compared to 2012: 31.8%).

The customer feedback in North America attests to the value of DTNA’s advanced technologies. Thanks to the new Detroit DD15 engine with the established Daimler BlueTec exhaust technology and aerodynamic features, customers benefit from fuel savings of up to 7% compared to the EPA 2010-conformant Cascadia truck.

Martin Daum, President and CEO of Daimler Trucks North America, is proud of the unit sales development of the flagship model: “Our goal is to offer the most economical and most innovative products and technologies in the industry as a way of contributing to the success of our customers. The Freightliner Cascadia Evolution is an excellent example.”

The drivetrain aggregates of the Detroit component brand make the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution into the efficiency champion of DTNA. The Detroit brand sells engines, axles and transmissions. DTNA is the only truck manufacturer in the NAFTA region to produce a completely integrated drivetrain from a single source, which ensures optimal synchronization of the drivetrain components for the customers’ benefit.

“Detroit powertrain components are available across the DTNA product family – from our Freightliner and Western Star trucks all the way to our Thomas Built Buses”, said Martin Daum, adding, “The positive orders position and the 75th company anniversary clearly illustrate what the employees of our commercial vehicle subsidiary Detroit Diesel Corporation are capable of achieving. This commitment is recognized not only by me, but also by our satisfied customers.”

The Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) is a subsidiary of DTNA with a registered office in Detroit, Michigan. DDC has manufactured more than four million engines in its plant in Redford, Michigan, since 1938. With capital expenditures of more than 750 million US dollars in the last ten years DTNA has transformed the production location into one of the most state-of-the-art plants worldwide.
