SUMO – as strong as ever

One of the leaders in their field, York-based arable machinery specialist, Sumo, is a an increasingly high-profile business with a global reach.

Sumo supplied premium-quality cultivation and drilling machinery across a global market in 2018 and saw a record year in terms of sales. Sumo machines are aimed at Farmers who want to maximise profits through innovative farm machinery and processes.

“The last few months at Sumo have been fantastic”, commented Managing Director, Steve English: “It’s an exciting time to be here at Sumo UK. We’ve got a brand-new management team in place and we’re dedicated to building innovative arable machinery to help farms be more productive.

“Sumo is stable and secure and over the next year we plan to further support and grow our dealership network, both in the UK and overseas”.

Gearing up for 2019 and beyond, Sumo have developed a strong leadership team. Mark Curtis has been promoted to Sales Director and remains an integral part of Sumo and is responsible for overall Sales and Aftersales.

New Commercial & Business Systems Director, Tracey Roberts, is working with our supply chain to maintain quality and delivery and upgrading current business operating systems within Manufacturing and CAD Engineering.

John Richardson, new Finance Director is managing accounting and financial control, concentrating on the profitable long-term growth of the business.

Also joining the senior management team is Mark Henson, Head of Manufacturing. Mark brings a wealth of operational improvement experience gained in both precision engineering and manufacturing assembly businesses across Europe.

As well as the new senior management team, Sumo have hired in most areas of the business including Marketing, Sales, Design Engineering, Fabrication and Manufacturing, with the new team filling integral roles within the business. The new Sumo is looking forward to building on last year’s success and our fantastic Sumo product range in 2019.  

Looking ahead into next year, Sumo are launching the Vaxio, a high-speed, high-performance, versatile cultivator which combines surface cultivation and loosening with even-levelling and consolidation in one pass, after a year of testing and improvements.

Sumo are also relaunching the Mixidisc, with the Mixidisc S, a higher-speed multipurpose cultivator for shallower cultivations with two rows of discs, followed by the Sumo Multipacka.

The new team is excited to start 2019 with a bang and will be exhibiting at LAMMA 19’ with the DTS 6 and the new Mixidisc S6. They’re looking forward to meeting friends old and new, so please come along and see the team in Hall 20, Stand 720.
