The electrical energy storage (ees) represents the entire production chainof the energy storage device production both in theory and in practice: the special show "Battery production" will present the entire production process using system and product demonstrators while BMW AG, KTM and Tesla Motors will show off mobile applications in electric vehicles. Parallel to the special show, experts will report on new approaches for the production process in the ees forum. The Technische Universität München will unveil the new center of excellence for battery cells, ExZellTUM. The ees is taking place in Munich in parallel with the electronica and hybridica trade fairs from November 13 to 16, 2012.
During the trade fair, 30 ees exhibitors in Hall C2, including AEG Power Solutions, Freescale, Leclanché, Manz and M.Braun Inertgas-Systeme as well as 67 electronica exhibitors focusing on power supply in Hall B2 (e. g. Duracell, FIAMM, Maxell Europe and Saft) will display their products and solutions for batteries, energy storage devices and production along the entire value chain.
Special show "Battery production"
The special show "Battery production" will demonstrate the entire process chain for producing lithium ion cells and battery systems - from the chemical processing of raw materials to finished high-voltage batteries. The special show is coordinated by the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management (iwb) at the Technische Universität München (TUM), in cooperation with the Institute of Technical Electrochemistry (TEC) and the Institute of Electrical Energy Storage Technology (EES) as well as the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Neutron Research Facility (FRM II). Research projects will be presented from areas such as electrochemistry, analytics, assembly and joining technology as well as electrical engineering. Industrial systems used for mixing coating inks, coating electrodes and cell assembly will complete the exhibition. Further highlights of the special show include battery systems for mobile and static applications as well as electric vehicles by BMW AG, KTM and Tesla Motors.
Experts' forum
Prof. Andreas Jossen, chair of the Electrical Energy Storage Technology (EES) department at the Technische Universität München will inaugurate the forum program, which will take place from November 13 to 15. The keynote topics are the "development trends of energy storage devices." The presentation will focus on today's lithium ion technology and the production of these cells and will highlight the development trends of the next few years. Numerous sessions will offer an intensive insight into all production modules. Central topics include: chemistry, front-end and back-end cell production, module production, battery packs as well as system integration, technology, market situation and applications. The individual presentations are coordinated by the Productronics Association in the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association).
ExZellTUM
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has initiated the "ExcellentBattery" program in order to encourage research activities and the transfer of technology in the field of battery technologies. The center of excellence for battery cells at the Technische Universität München (ExZellTUM) has now been launched. Together with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and several leading companies, the TUM's aim is to develop innovative energy storage devices. In the next three years, the BMBF will invest 4.3 million euros in the ExZellTUM. A presentation by the project managers from the center of excellence will take place on Wednesday from 12:45 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a discussion round.
Users' day
Within the scope of the users' day, batteryuniversity.eu is organizing a basic training session on November 15, from 9:30 am until 1 pm for those who are interested and want to get a first insight into battery technologies. The event will focus on topics such as battery technologies, charging technology and lithium ion accumulators but also concrete applications and practical examples. These topics as well as other subjects will then be dealt with in more depth in the afternoon of November 15 at the expert forum.
