The many solutions that make the Komatsu C202 a truly tough workhorse include a sealed bearing housing for increased service life. The bar clamp for the main saw has been redesigned, as has the tensioner for the top saw, better stabilizing chain tensioning and simplifying service. The lubricant pump is designed for high precision and simple service. The expander pins used for the feed roller arms and delimbing knives also help increase service life. As for the hydraulics, the cylinders have hard-wearing piston rods while the knife cylinder has a new design for additional durability. The Komatsu C202 is also equipped with a damping function when tilting upward to reduce loads on the head's frame and felling link.

Another advantage of the new Komatsu C202 comprises the many optional extras, which enable the head to be tailored to meet many different requirements. Say, for example, that the base machine is a forestry excavator, the head can be equipped with alternative saw equipment, with a sprocket, saw bar, and chain for .404" and ¾" pitch. The head can be equipped with two alternative vertical knives; either a straight knife for normal delimbing needs or a knife with a skid tip for more demanding delimbing, the latter shaped to better process crooked stems.

Aside from being robust, this head also features some smart technology such as the sensors that provide improved precision in the cutting cycle. Measurement accuracy is another distinguishing feature of the Komatsu C202. The MaxiXplorer control and information system provides full control and automatically takes care of everything from gripping force to length and diameter measurements. Most functions can be adapted to different tree species and stem diameters. All designed to increase service life and reduce costs for machine owners.
