The SAME Explorer TB range: solidly built, practical multi-role tractors now with even more technology and performance

The new SAME Explorer TB range inherits the sturdy construction, practicality and extraordinary multi-role capability of its predecessors, but also gains even more advanced technological content. And with state of the art FARMotion engines, the new Explorer TB range is now more powerful and fuel efficient.

Extraordinarily simple to use and with generous draft, PTO and hydraulic power, the all-new SAME Explorer TB range caters to the needs of a wide variety of applications. These are the perfect tractors for use in olive groves, low density fruit orchards and tunnel greenhouses. With their solid construction, low centre of gravity and ideal weight distribution, these tractors deliver no-compromise performance when working with heavy implements even in hilly or mountainous terrain. The new brake system with multiple wet discs on all four wheels, combined with the optional dedicated hydraulic trailer braking system (which already meets the requirements of the latest European safety directives), makes the new Explorer TB range even safer than ever, especially for transport tasks.

The innovative 4 cylinder FARMotion engine features common rail injection with injection pressures up to 2000 bar and a turbocharger with wastegate valve and intercooler, while an exhaust aftertreatment system consisting of an external, cooled EGR circuit and a DOC catalytic converter ensures compliance with Stage III B emission regulations. The FARMotion engine combines class-beating reliability and compactness with low maintenance and extraordinary fuel economy. A maximum engine speed of 2200 rpm, with maximum power available at 2000 rpm, extraordinary flexibility, low specific consumption values in all working conditions and the generous torque already on tap even at the lowest engine speeds emphasises the agricultural characteristics of this engine.

Based on a 5 speed synchronised mechanical gearbox, the transmissions of the new Explorer TB range are highly configurable. The base configuration consists of a 5 speed gearbox with two ranges and a synchronised reverse shuttle (for a total of 10+10 speeds), which may be complemented with a creeper gear (20+20) or Hi-Lo gearbox (20+20). Adding both options increases the number of speeds available to 40+40. A hydraulic reverse shuttle is also available as an option which, in keeping with SAME traditions, includes the practical Stop&Go function (which is invaluable when working with a front loader, but also for manoeuvring on slopes) and the ComfortClutch button, which lets the driver shift gear without using the clutch pedal. Depending on the tyre sizes fitted (with a choice of sizes from 24” to 30” for the rear wheels), these tractors are capable of a top speed of 40 km/h at engine speeds below 2000 rpm. All transmission variants may be equipped with special watertight seals, making the tractor ideal for working even in the toughest conditions, such as in a rice fields.

The open centre hydraulic system is equipped with a 55 l/min pump which, in addition to feeding the lift also serves the SAME mechanically controlled distributors which are offered with up to 6 outlets, which are renowned for their all round capability and reliability. An independent gear pump with an impressive capacity of 35 l/min dedicated entirely to the steering system ensures greater safety and smoother steering action even at low engine speeds. This is now also available with the optional SDD (Steering Double Displacement) function, which doubles the steering rate when manoeuvring. The rear lift, available with optional quick hitches, offers a lifting capacity of up to 3600 Kg, which may be increased to up to 4525 Kg. The new (optional) front lift can manage loads of up to 2100 Kg.

The choice of PTO variants is just as versatile, for optimised fuel consumption in all situations. Four different configurations are available, from the basic 540 + 540ECO combination to the most comprehensive, which offers all four standard modes (540, 540ECO, 1000 and 1000ECO) in addition to ground-speed mode, with an independent output shaft. The rear PTO comes as standard with a progressively engaged electrohydraulic clutch, and is also available with an interchangeable output shaft as an option. Naturally, a front PTO for use together with the new front lift is also available as an option.

The new SAME Explorer TB range also boasts a revised driver area, with simple and intuitive controls in a more ergonomic new layout which also features the widely acclaimed SAME colour-coded scheme. The platform is suspended on silent-blocks for even greater comfort, while the dashboard features a practical analogue-digital instrument console giving the driver all the information needed on the status and functions of the tractor. The choice of structures available to protect the driver consists of two 2-pillar rear frames, with partially or completely folding variants offered, or the brand new folding 2-pillar front frame.
