The introduction of the GLS-2000 “provides the ideal solution for the survey market and other sectors that demand high speed and accurate 3D data collection,” said Jon Skelton, imaging business manager for Topcon Europe Positioning. “Building on its laser scanning expertise, Topcon has produced a compact, lightweight and easy to use laser scanner that can be utilised in a wide range of markets, and with an environment rating of IP54, a wide range of site conditions and scenarios.”

The scanner is operated by a touch controlled colour screen that provides for one touch scanning utilising pre-set parameters. The full-dome 360-degree scanning capability ensures maximum coverage from each scan position thereby reducing time spent on site. Further time saving is achieved by the ultra-high speed scanning capability of the GLS-2000. The scanner can achieve a full 360 degree scan in under three minutes including digital images.

“High-speed scanning is not achieved at the expense of accuracy,” Skelton said.  “The GLS-2000 achieves market leading precision that is demonstrated in its clean data sets."

Linked to this is ability for the user to select between two separate lasers according to the project. This provides an option to use a Class 1 eye safe laser where the situation demands complete safety for the general public.

“The GLS-2000 provides high-quality digital images that can be used to colour point clouds to provide photo-realistic data sets. The long-range data collection capability of the scanner adds to the all-round functionality of the GLS-2000,” Skelton said.

Combined with Topcon’s ScanMaster software for registration, manipulation and interrogation of point clouds, the GLS-2000 scanner provides “class-leading performance and specifications – it is the ultimate tool for the collection of 3D data,” Skelton said.
