transport logistic 2013: Conference highlight on the logistical challenges facing the cities of the future

Messe München's "intelligent urbanization" platform, featured at six selected trade shows, examines the subject of our expanding megacities and urban areas and points out viable solutions for innovative management and development of these metropolises. transport logistic, which takes place from June 4 to 7, 2013, in Munich, will be taking up this theme for the first time.

According to calculations by the United Nations, by the year 2030 two-thirds of the world's population will be living in urban areas. This increasing concentration of people, resources, goods and capital will inevitably present major challenges to the future of urban infrastructure.

The logistics industry, too, must be ready for these challenges. transport logistic, the "International Exhibition for Logistics, Mobility, IT and Supply Chain Management", is therefore examining this whole subject of "intelligent urbanization" in its supporting program, from the angle of logistics and mobility concepts.

Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) the show is organizing a panel discussion on "intelligent urbanization – Logistics for the city of tomorrow", taking place on Friday, June 7, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:30 in the forum in Hall B1. The issues being addressed by the experts in this panel will include the challenges for urban logistics of the future: chronic overloading of the transport network, delays, environmental pollution and noise. They will also be pointing out possible solutions, for example combined transports, collaboration in warehouses, electromobility, etc, in an attempt to identify what is achievable, and where the biggest obstacles lie.

Similar themes will be exercising minds in the forums on “E-commerce makes logistics – what the industry can learn from each other?", organized by Vogel Business Media/MM Logistik, Tuesday, June 6, 2013, 12:00–13:30 and on "Express services: Guarantor for accurate, rapid and reliable inner-city logistics", organized by the industry organization, Bundesverband Internationaler Paket- und Expressdienste (BIEK), also on Tuesday, 15:30–17:00.
