Valmet to supply automation technology to the new Hamitabat combined cycle power plant in Marmara, Turkey

Valmet will supply automation technology to Hamitabat Elektrik Üretim's new combined cycle power plant in Kirklareli in the Marmara region of Turkey. Valmet's delivery includes a distributed Valmet DNA automation system as well as a plant information and performance monitoring system. The new systems will be started up in August 2016.

The order was placed by GAMA Güç Sistemleri Mühendislik ve Ticaret AS, an EPC company which will carry out the construction of the power plant on a turnkey basis. The order is included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2015 orders received. The value of the order is not disclosed. Typically the order value of automation system deliveries ranges from below EUR one million to EUR three million.

"We were impressed by Valmet's strong combined cycle plant references in Turkey and around the world. The company has proven its expertise and excellence in power generation," says Altan V. Orer, Deputy Managing Director (Procurement), GAMA Güç Sistemleri Mühendislik ve Ticaret AS.

Targeting high availability, controllability and reliability

With Valmet's modern and user-friendly systems, the facility will be able to reach high process availability, controllability and reliability. The Valmet DNA system offers information management and plant performance calculations all on the same integrated platform, which provides the plant with major benefits, such as better usability for operators, uniform tools and seamless communication between various functions.

"We will provide the plant with professional engineering, an on-time delivery and high value creation. In the future we will also provide it with local technical support," says Yucel Dogan, Sales Manager, Turkey, Automation, Valmet.

The 1200 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant is expected to start generating electricity in 2017. Designed for a lifespan of 25 years, the plant consists of two blocks. Both of them have a single-shaft configuration of a gas turbine, a steam turbine and a heat recovery steam generator.
