Valmet to supply scrubber system to TUI Cruises' new vessels

Valmet will supply exhaust gas scrubber system (EGCS) for two new cruise vessels, Mein Schiff 7 & 8, to be built by Meyer Turku for TUI Cruises GmbH. The scrubber system deliveries to the first vessel will start in the fourth quarter of 2016 and to the second vessel in the first quarter of 2017.

This scrubber system order was included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2015 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed. Typically, the order value of scrubber system deliveries ranges between EUR 1 and 6 million.

Valmet has a long track record in supplying scrubber systems to cruise vessels. For TUI Cruises these new cruise ships represent 5th and 6th cruise vessels with EGCS scrubbers based on Valmet's technology.

The scrubber system delivery will include integrated hybrid scrubber systems for both engine rooms and all auxiliary systems with automation. The exhaust gas is washed with seawater in open loop mode and with recirculated water and alkali in closed loop mode. Wash water is cleaned with Valmet's patented water treatment system. All emissions are continuously monitored and the complete exhaust gas scrubber system is controlled with Valmet's proven marine automation.

TUI Cruises GmbH is a Germany-based, joint venture cruise line of the German Tourist firm, TUI AG and the American cruise line operator, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Headquarters are located in Hamburg, Germany. The company started operations in 2009 and it operates cruise holidays specifically tailored for the German market.

TUI Cruises fleet contains four cruise vessels in operation, Mein Schiff 1, 2, 3 and 4, where Mein Schiff 3 & 4 are equipped with Valmet EGCS Scrubbers. In addition four new vessels (Mein Schiff 5, 6, 7 and 8) are built by Meyer Turku within 2016 - 2019. Mein Schiff 3, 4, 5 and 6 with gross tonnage of 99,300 have passenger capacity of 2,800. Mein Schiff 7 and 8 with gross tonnage of ca. 111,500 will have passenger capacity of ca. 3,100.
