A visit to BAU 2013, the World´s Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials, Systems needs careful planning: there´s travel to organize, a hotel to book, information to be gathered on the exhibitors you want to visit, etc. All this is made much easier thanks to the wide range of services BAU offers to its trade visitors.

Print@home tickets
If you want to save time and money, then you can buy your entrance ticket for BAU online at www.bau-muenchen.com/tickets. A one-day ticket bought online costs only €21 instead of €35 (2-day ticket: €30 instead of €68; full pass: €44 instead of €89). Buying your ticket in advance like this also saves you valuable time when you get to the fair. The process is easy. You print out your Print@home ticket yourself at home or in the office, bring this print-out with you and use it to pass straight through the turnstiles at the show.

How to get to the trade show

By local public transport in Munich: Anyone traveling to BAU 2013 within the Munich area by local public transport (operators = MVV) needs to buy a ticket. Free travel on this transport system is no longer included in the price of entry to the trade show or in exhibitor passes!

The new ruling, introduced last year, applies to all events organized by Messe München International, including BAU 2013. If you are coming to the show for one day only, then it is recommended you buy a one-day ticket: 'Single-Tageskarte' (for one person) or a 'Partner-Tageskarte' (for a group of up to five people). For a visit lasting several days, the best option is a 3-day ticket (single or partner). And for a week´s visit, the 'Isarcard Wochenkarte' should be considered. Those arriving at the airport can make use of the 'Airport-City-Day-Ticket'.

For further information on MVV tickets and their validity, please go to: www.mvv-muenchen.de/en, and look at their section called 'On tour with the MVV/Visitors to Munich trade fairs'. To help and advise BAU´s exhibitors and visitors on buying an MVV ticket, there will be counters set up at the entrances staffed by specially trained hostesses. There you can also buy MVV tickets.

At the subway stations 'Messegelände Ost' and 'Messegelände West', there are of course ticket machines, but also an info point where people can buy a ticket for the transport system from a member of staff. Other personnel will also be on hand at the subway stations to help attendees in their choice and purchase of tickets at the ticket machines.

By rail: Those arriving at the central station ('Hauptbahnhof') in Munich should change to the subway ('U-Bahn'), line U2, to travel on to the fair. The journey by 'U-Bahn' to the trade fair center takes about 20 minutes (for the trade fair, you can get out at one of two stops: 'Messestadt West' or 'Messestadt Ost'). In the mornings and in the afternoons until after the end of the fair each day, the subway trains run every five minutes.

By car: A dynamic traffic guidance system directs car-drivers to the fair, leading them to the nearest free parking spaces. The parking areas on the open-air site and in the multi-storey car park called 'Parkhaus West' (which alone has parking for 4,600 vehicles) open two hours before the fair starts and close two hours after the end of the fair each day. If you need a route planner, you can find one at BAU´s website ('Travel & Accommodation', 'Travel').

By air: Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the official airline partner of Messe München GmbH, is offering discounts on flights to Munich for BAU; for details go to the section on 'Travel & Accommodation' at www.bau-muenchen.com, and click on 'Travel'. Air travelers can use the shuttle bus to get from the airport to the fair. The buses run every 30 minutes on each day of the fair. The stops at Munich Airport are in front of Terminal 1 (Exit A and Central Zone) and Terminal 2. A one-way bus ticket costs €8.00, a return €13.50. Journey time: max. 45 minutes.

Accommodation
BAU is also providing help with finding the right accommodation for a visit to the fair. The information is available in the section on 'Travel & Accommodation' on the website. Listed here are a number of partners who offer accommodation of all kinds – from B&B to luxury hotels. Online booking is also possible. The golden rule for whatever accommodation you are seeking is: Book early – that way you have more choice and can take advantage of better rates.

Visas and travel arrangements
Visitors flock to BAU from around the world. To support visitors from countries where a visa is required to enter Germany, BAU is again offering a special visa service, giving advice on which documentation is required. You can also register online – at www.bau-muenchen.com – for a visa invitation letter. The online registrations will be forwarded for processing to the relevant foreign representatives of Messe München. These representatives will also be glad to help with organizing group visits to BAU and providing useful hints and tips on how best to get ready for a visit to a trade fair. With six subsidiaries abroad and over 60 foreign representatives, serving more than 90 countries, Messe München International has a worldwide network of support and contacts.

Online catalog – finding companies at the click of a mouse
Finding exhibitors – the easy way! The newly designed online catalog provides a rapid overview of all the companies represented at BAU. Just a few clicks of the mouse and you can find the exhibitor you are looking for. You can search according to company name, hall number, country or postcode. If it´s particular products, materials, techniques or systems you are looking for, then the product search is the right place. And in seconds, you can locate exactly where individual exhibitors are using the 'Boothfinder'. All the registered exhibitors are listed in an Excel file which can be downloaded from www.bau-muenchen.com, in the section called 'Online catalog'. The database is regularly updated.

BAU to go

The BAU app puts BAU 2013 in your pocket. Basically this app is a mobile online catalog, supplemented with content from the supporting program. So, if you want information, at any time and any place, on exhibitors at BAU, and on the forums, special shows, workshops, congresses and prize ceremonies, you can download this app from the App Store. The app works on iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices as well as smartphones with android operating systems.

Tours of the fair

Tours for almost all professionals in the building sector, from architects to the skilled trades, are being offered at BAU 2013. The daily tours for architects are being organized, as in previous years, by BauNetz and Bauverlag. Go to www.architektenrundgang.de to sign up. The Building Centre Munich is also for the first time offering themed tours for the skilled trades. And there will also be special tours for representatives from the real-estate sector. Here the organizer is Verlags-Marketing Stuttgart. Finally, Munich´s building technology college (Städtische Fachschule für Bautechnik) will be guiding its students through the exhibition. The tours go to the booths of selected exhibitors, where special presentations of new products and systems will be put on, and their benefits explained for the particular target group. The tours last between two and three hours and it is generally necessary to register in advance. Numbers are limited. For further information take a look at the supporting program, listed at: www.bau-muenchen.com.
