Volvo Penta joins up with construction heavyweight Tesmec

Volvo Penta extends its reach in the construction industry — just in time for one of Europe’s largest construction exhibitions, Intermat 2015 in Paris. The engine supplier is partnering with Italian manufacturer Tesmec on its stringing machines.

Already at the heart of a variety of construction machines — including pumps, air compressors, crushers, drill rigs and cranes — Volvo Penta engines are soon to be available in a new construction application: power line and fiber optic cable installation. Italian construction equipment powerhouse Tesmec is now using Volvo Penta engines in its Argano Idraulico ARS802 stringing machine.

Tesmec has already produced a prototype with an eight-liter Volvo Penta TAD872VE installed, and a second, smaller prototype — this one containing a TAD570VE — is on the way. Eventually, four Tesmec puller-tensioner stringer models will be available equipped with Volvo Penta power. Each model can come equipped in a variety of power levels and emissions stages.

Tesmec, which is headquartered in Grassobbio, Italy, is a world leader in the production of construction machines, including railway equipment and trenchers. Its equipment is used in telecommunications, oil and gas, agricultural, surface mining, water and sewage, and power line applications.

Tesmec chose Volvo Penta from a select pool of premium brands, to differentiate itself from its primary competitor, which uses a different engine brand.

“Having Tesmec as a customer is quite a feather in the cap for Volvo Penta,” says Giacomo Mondini. “They’re a key player in the construction segment, and because our engines work well in their applications, we believe there is the potential for our relationship to grow further.”

Volvo Penta and Tesmec are both showing at Intermat 2015, with Volvo Penta at Booth C 045 in Hall 6 and Tesmec at Booth 5B D 027.
