The project – the twentieth involving the Quantum series from Korean sunglasses manufacturer Gentle Monster – is called “The Malfunction”.
When two parties quarrel...
…they both end up happy. At least that is the case with two KR AGILUS robots from KUKA squabbling over a pair of sunglasses in Seoul. The project – the twentieth involving the Quantum series from Korean sunglasses manufacturer Gentle Monster – is called “The Malfunction.
One-act play evolves from presentation of sunglasses
It reflects the point of view of media artists from teamVOID on artificial intelligence (AI). The intention of the artists is to display how mechanical systems acquire their uniqueness through “malfunction” and become one-of-a-kind objects. In the eyes of the artists, this uniqueness is the most natural form of artificial intelligence. Beginning with an underwhelming presentation of sunglasses, a rather entertaining one-act play develops. One robot dances out of line as a result of its “malfunction” and disrupts the planned sequence. The result is tearing and pulling, a mixture of conflict and harmony. One is even left with the impression that the two robots are almost interacting and communicating with one another.
