Agricultural equipment specialist Yanmar has brought more than 50 years’ experience and expertise to bear in the development of two new models that blur the lines between sub-compact and full-blown tractor. The result is the SA221 and SA424; tractors that raise the bar in operator comfort, ease of use, confined space operation, low fuel consumption and low emission performance.
Compact Yet Powerful
A key feature of the new Yanmar SA221 and SA424 sub-compact tractors is their compact dimensions. Externally, they are roughly the size of a traditional garden tractor. But those looks are deceiving as both models benefit from big tractor levels of performance, productivity, versatility and operator comfort. Furthermore, both models are powered by performance-matched Yanmar engines and transmissions that satisfy all know emissions regulations whilst providing the lowest possible fuel consumption levels.
Styled by world-renowned industrial designer Ken Okuyama, both models are easy-to-operate and simple to maintain making them the ideal choice for customers across a multitude of sectors and applications where space is at a premium.
SA221 – Small but Mighty
Weighing in at 650 kg and with a turning circle of just 2.4 metres, the Yanmar SA221 is powered by a fuel efficient and emissions compliant Yanmar engine developing 16.1 kW at a rated 3,000 rpm. This field proven and reliable power pack drives through a Yanmar hydrostatic transmission that affords smooth speed and directional changes and a top speed of 13 km/h. A pair of side-by-side hydrostatic foot pedals provide fast and smooth forward and reverse speed changes, allowing the operator to concentrate on utilizing the light, power-assisted steering and single lever implement controls. A 23-litre fuel tank allows the SA221 machine to work a long working day without refueling, making it one of the most fuel-efficient machines in its class.
The Yanmar SA221 unit is operated from a spacious and well-appointed ROPS cab that features a fully adjustable suspension seat with foldable arm rests for optimum operator comfort. That comfort is further enhanced by an isolation-mounted engine and full-frame chassis that minimizes vibration through the operator compartment. A large digital display panel ensures that the operator is aware of all key operating functions while a digital gauge accurately monitors fuel levels.
In keeping with all Yanmar tractors, the new SA221 is designed to be easy to maintain, boasting long service intervals. A polycarbonate hood folds back in one piece, providing access to all key maintenance points that are grouped on one side for convenience and accessibility. A front-mounted radiator is protected against the ingress of grass for a long working life and optimum engine cooling and protection.
The machine is equipped with a Category I 3-point hitch as standard, and is offered with a wide array of attachments for maximum operating versatility and optimum utilization levels.
SA424 – Compact Power
The larger Yanmar SA424 tractor shares many of the features of its smaller sister, the SA221. Like the SA221, the SA424 also utilizes a performance-matched Yanmar engine and transmission combination. The emissions-compliant Yanmar diesel engine used in the SA424 develops 17.8 kW at a rated 3,000 kW for additional power and performance and yet still delivers class-leading fuel economy.
Operated from a spacious and well-appointed cab, the SA424 features a cast-iron transaxle and two side-by-side hydrostatic transmission pedals that provide drivers with unprecedented levels of fine control.
Powered by a fuel efficient and emissions compliant, three-cylinder Yanmar diesel engine driving through a proven Yanmar transmission, the SA424 is capable of a top speed of 21.5 km/h making it one of the fastest tractors in its weight class. The unit’s front loader can lift up to 545 kilos of load, a level of power usually associated with much larger tractors. With class leading ground clearance and exceptional stability, the SA424 is a tough tractor designed for the most challenging terrain.
