CTE Has Supplied The City Of Rome With 18 Articulated Aerial Platforms For The Department Of Environmental Protection And The Green

Since September 2011 the City of Rome’s Department of Environmental Protection and the Green has been using a fleet of CTE truck-mounted articulated platforms, 17 of the ZED 21J model and a ZED 29J. The contract was awarded following a tender in May 2011 to a task-force comprising CTE, Roscini, an experienced Nissan concessionaire based in Rome, and Tecnoalt, a specialist platform rental, sales and service which is part of the CTE group and also based in Rome.

Contracts for government agencies are increasingly provided by companies working alongside each other to provide various services. To meet the requirements of the tender the task force had to only ensure the supply of the equipment but also deliver after sales services such as extended warranties, direct assistance at the customer’s headquarters, replacement vehicles in case of downtime over 48 hours, and more.

Q: How Long Have You Known CTE And Its Range Of Platforms?

A: We have known CTE thanks to Massimo Bellini and Tecnoalt for the last eleven years. Since then we have established a successful partnership and supplied a variety of ZED platforms installed on Nissan vehicles to customers in the Lazio region.

The relationship has also brought us together for the “adventure” of the tender for the City of Rome. I call it an “adventure” because it has been an experience lasting more than one year. We worked with CTE to devise the right offer with the aim of winning the contract.

Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Strengths Of CTE And Its Platforms?

A: Well, if we talk about platforms, I am no expert but I have found that CTE has a wide range of products that can be installed on Nissan trucks. This has allowed us to supply various public and private customers. Concerning quality, I’ve found that CTE products are very high quality and this has always meant reliability. I have never had customers call for service for the platform or our Nissan chassis which is a sign of perfect union. If we talk about people, this is undoubtedly the trump card for CTE. Without naming names, I have always found from technical to commercial, from the President to the carrier, that they always demonstrate availability, preparation and professionalism. This last point is really indispensable during procurement because the time of delivery, technical specifications and customer service are crucial to the ultimate success.

Q: When You Decided To Participate In The Tender Called By The City Of Rome, What Were The Strengths Identified In The CTE Products That In Your Opinion Led To Them Being Awarded The Contract?

A: After a discussion with the CTE team we recognised that the ZED 21J and ZED 29J were the models that met the requirements of the tender. Moreover, the tender required an after sales service that only CTE/Tecnoalt and of course Nissan branches could guarantee here in Rome.

The selection phase included an inspection of our workshops and those of CTE/Tecnoalt by experts from the City of Rome, and we passed this without any problems.

The ZED 21J is the only platform with a jib that offers maximum working height of over 20m, working radius of over 10m and can be installed on a Category B (up to 3.5t) commercial vehicle. During operation the Nissan Cabstar remains extremely compact and the working envelope covers an incredible working area. The stabilisers are very narrow and there is zero tail swing, both of which were important factors for Rome. Do not forget that Rome not only has wide streets and open spaces but also many smaller gardens, trees along the Tiber, and much more. Now the city can maintain its trees without causing any disruption to traffic.

Q: In Which Applications Will The City Of Rome Use The CTE Platforms?

A: The purchase was made for the Department Of Environmental Protection And Green and the vehicles will mainly be used for pruning. One of the strong points, which I believe was crucial to the decision, was the fact that CTE mounts all the hydraulic pipes and electric cables inside the boom of the ZED 21J and ZED 29J. This means that falling branches and trunks cannot damage these services and jeopardize the function of the machine.

Q: What's Next?

A: We will of course continue with the same passion for our work. The sales and marketing of commercial and industrial vehicles has been our mission since 1983. From our headquarters at Via Boccea, 553 in Rome we sell vehicles manufactured by Nissan, Isuzu and Piaggio.

We have had a strong relationship with CTE for over 10 years and I feel we are all part of “one family”. I have always tried to reciprocate the affection of my friends Giovanni Bellini, Massimo Sabbatani and all the people in Tecnoalt and CTE.

We work closely with CTE and collaborate in the supply of chassis when the company installs its B-Lift and ZED platforms, and for the after sales services. We have many projects in mind for the future. I believe that we must go one step at a time, with care, determination and without stumbling.
