COVID-19 and the European equipment rental industry

Following the spread of COVID-19 across Europe and the subsequent restrictions imposed on social and economic activity in different European countries, the equipment rental industry has had to face up to a challenging situation, with rental activity at 15-40% of normal levels across southern Europe and 40-80% in northern and central Europe.

In a short video, ERA Secretary General Michel Petitjean discusses the situation across Europe, the main concerns of rental companies, as well as the emerging trends, such as accelerated digitalisation and more drive-in rental stores, and future outlook for the industry.

“The biggest issue will not be how intensive your company has been working in March, April or May, but when and how much the construction market will recover over the next 12-18 months”, Mr Petitjean said.

He continued, “The rental industry still has a bright future because it makes sense economically and environmentally, but also this crisis could very well help the equipment rental industry in increasing its diversification and its penetration amongst its various markets.”
