Transports in the desert states often demand everything of the material used – blistering heat and sandy terrain require extremely robust vehicles. The MHD from NICOLAS is such a vehicle and is used all over the world in the toughest conditions. Just as it was to transport a 252-tonne liquid separator from Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia to a gas refinery operated by Aramco in Khursaniyah.
The day of the transport saw strong winds added to the already difficult transport conditions, creating extensive sand drifts on the roads used by the transport. The hydraulic axle packer of the NICOLAS heavy duty module really came into its own on the uphill climbs, stabilising the load especially on the thirty-kilometre desert that formed the last part of the route. The situation became even more tense on the refinery site itself, thanks to a steep drop at right angles to the planned route. The NICOLAS MHD mastered this challenge with aplomb and and ensured, not least thanks to its precise steering, that the load was deposited safely at its destination on a pre-prepared sub-structure. With a platform height of just 845 mm when lowered, the MHD from NICOLAS can lend its hand to many tasks. The modular design facilitates an array of configurations and the vehicles can be coupled lengthwise or crosswise depending on the job in question. The NICOLAS MHD is not only versatile and robust, but also appeals due to its low servicing costs. A lot of emphasis is placed on a low-maintenance design even during production, and on the highest quality in line with the quality standards of the TII Group, to which NICOLAS belongs.
