ALE are double transport winners at The Heavies awards

ALE has won two awards at The Heavies, Job of the Year (BE16) and Project of the Year.

Up against several other companies in the UK transport and heavy haulage industry, ALE scooped the Job of the Year (BE16) for the Highbury transformer move and the Project of the Year for the Western Link Project.

The Highbury job involved the delivery of three transformers, weighing 135t and measuring 7.6m x 4.98m x 4.55m, to the new National Grid substation in Highbury, North London. Because of site restrictions, ALE needed to tranship the transformer onto a smaller trailer at Holloway – a busy high street area of London.

Judges commented that the job was “A masterful piece of planning and traffic management, a virtual minefield of weight, width, height and length restrictions to contend with and numerous authorities and organisations to deal with. Finding a suitable site to tranship loads of this size from girder trailers to SPMTs in one of the world’s most congested cities is an achievement in itself, a showcase for this company’s range of capabilities.”

During the year-long Western Link project, ALE were tasked with transporting a total of 19 transformers to two separate site locations as part of a major energy project linking Scottish Power and National Grid. Once delivered, ALE prepared the transformers for their site installations.

Judges praised the project as “a showcase for the company and its range of abilities, first rate planning and execution of a large scale project. Including both road and sea transportation, along with final installation on-site using a wide range of equipment and skilled personnel. Only a select group of companies worldwide can handle this type of project, a world class performance.”

This follows on from last year’s successful win of the Innovation of the Year – End User award, where ALE’s Trojan truck was praised as a major breakthrough in capability, fuel efficiency and reliability.

Matthew Rushton, Senior Sales Manager for ALE who received the awards, said: “We are delighted to have won two awards at The Heavies; this demonstrates how we are continuing to push the boundaries within the UK transport market. Both jobs presented complex challenges which were solved with a bespoke solution, utilising our in-house expertise and extensive transport fleet.  I’m really proud of all of the teams involved and for the industry recognition.”

Ran in association with the Heavy Transport Association (HTA), The Heavies award ceremony was held for the second time at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire, UK, in March.

The award ceremony was attended by hundreds from the UK heavy transport industry and the 17 categories honoured the achievements of industry organisations who have contributed towards innovation, outstanding service, efficiency and quality.
