Alimak is proud to present a new generation of construction hoists that sets a new standard in the construction industry. The new Alimak Scando 650a 40-46 S model will enhance safety and drive productivity on construction sites and is one of the most sustainable hoists available on the market.
Alimak has listened to the market demands and advanced the development of today’s construction hoist. Since its launch in 2004, the Alimak Scando 650 has become one of the world’s most popular construction hoists. It’s now being refined with a new improved model offering a range of new features and benefits. Thanks to its innovative design, the new Scando 650a is lighter and uses less electricity than its predecessor, resulting in reduced environmental impact.
Driving productivity on construction sites
The payload capacity has increased by 800 kg—from 3,200 kg to 4,000 kg—compared to the previous Scando 650 at the same car size. This results in a large performance increase, while at the same time, the hoist’s energy operating consumption is 22% lower at an average payload of 500 kg.
The new Scando 650a is available in single or dual-car configurations and has a car size of 1.5 m x 4.6 m. It can be configured with a lifting height of 200 m with an increased lifting height of up to 400 m on demand.
New driving modes – industrial design HMI panel
An industrial design HMI panel with a high-resolution touchscreen and a new user-friendly interface has been developed to optimize the use of the hoist. The new advanced HMI solution delivers real-time hoist status information and is water resistant with an IP65 corrosion-resistant screen with protective glass.
New driving modes will help the project manager optimize the use of the hoist and enhance vertical transportation logistics at the construction site.
Driving modes
-
ECO mode: In Eco mode, the motors run at the most energy-efficient speed with low power consumption.
-
Optimized speed mode: Adapts and optimizes the speed dependent on current payload and available power.
-
Reduced speed mode: Reduced speed for low noise operation, beneficial if driving the hoist in residential areas at night.
A sustainable solution
With reduced energy consumption and a low manufacturing carbon footprint, the Scando 650a is one of the most sustainable hoists in the world and built to last.
Sustainability has been considered in all stages of product development, from sourcing, production, transportation, and usage. The hoist has 22% lower energy consumption than previous models due to its lightweight design and energy-efficient electric motors. The Scando 650a offers a long lifecycle and a low total cost of ownership. Less material is used to produce the hoist, and it’s made from 97.5% recyclable materials, with Alimak’s manufacturing process using 100% renewable energy with low CO2 impact.
Accessories such as mast, ties, vertical pipe systems, and landing equipment are fully compatible with the new Scando 650a and the existing Scando 650 range.
The future of digitalization has arrived
The Scando 650a connects with My Alimak, a customized web-based portal that provides vital performance insights for owners of Alimak equipment to enhance productivity and safety at construction projects. My Alimak simplifies operation by enabling access to the connected hoist anytime, anywhere.
New features at a glance
The Alimak Scando 650a comes with several new features to make life easier for users and owners, during operation, transportation, storage, installation, dismantling, service, and maintenance.
-
Hoist car: The new hoist car has a light and rigid design of painted steel and aluminum and weighs 25% less than its predecessor. This results in lower operation, transportation, installation, and maintenance costs. The payload capacity has increased by 800 kg—from 3,200 kg to 4,000 kg—compared to the previous Scando 650 at the same car size. This results in a large performance increase, while at the same time, the hoist’s energy operating consumption is 22% lower.
-
Vertical sliding doors: A new door design, with a larger 4 m wide x 2.25 m high opening capability to load/unload larger goods, has been developed. The larger door opening eases loading by forklift or directly from transportation into the hoists long side for enhanced productivity. Also, the doors on the hoist's short sides have a larger opening, they are easier to open with enhanced design door counterweights with chains, for longevity on moving parts. All doors come with electrically monitored safety locks with indication lights and fall protection safety.
-
Base enclosure: The new design base enclosure is compatible with existing Alimak Scando 650 accessories. Possible step-in heights of 400 mm, 1,200 mm, and 1,500 mm depending on the hoist set-up.
-
Frequency converter: Smart Frequency Converter (FC) as standard, ensures maximum speed of the hoist independent of payload or any voltage drop. Improved ride comfort with a soft start regardless of load.
-
Electric motors: New high energy efficiency motors with environmentally friendly design. Smaller, lighter, and durable with low maintenance needs. The new motors reduce environmental impact by using less materials, less electricity, and reducing CO2 emissions. Smaller motors give more space on the hoist car roof for better access during installation and service.
New features to improve safety and ergonomics during installation and service
-
Installation platform: A new foldable design installation platform simplifies and improves safety and ergonomics when installing and inspecting mast, ties, vertical pipe systems, and landing arrangements. High wear and tear resistance and slip-resistant floor.
-
Installation crane: Foldable jib installation crane equipped with or without an electrical chain hoist to ease the installation of mast sections, tie assemblies, and landing gates. Provides improved ergonomics during installation. Light and detachable, easy to handle.
-
Break resistor design: New foldable design to enhance safety and improve ergonomics on the hoist car roof during installation of mast sections and tie assemblies and during service and inspection work.
-
Handrail design: Enhanced lightweight aluminum handrails on car roofs, reducing the risk of objects falling during installation and service.
-
Pulse encoder protection: Better protection and positioning to simplify and enhance safety during service. In dual hoist car applications, one car can be serviced while the other is still in operation.
The new Scando 650a 40-46 S model is an ideal solution for companies looking to improve their construction logistics, safety, ergonomics, and sustainability. The new model is prepared to fully comply with the new EU machinery directive 12159:2024 and will be available to order from mid-2025.
