Altec Celebrates 85th Anniversary with Commemorative Event and Ribbon Cutting at Renovated Birmingham Facility

Altec Inc. highlighted the celebration of 85 years in Alabama with a commemorative event, which included a formal ribbon cutting at the company’s original facility in North Birmingham following extensive renovations at the plant. More than 400 guests, dignitaries and Altec associates attended the event. Activities included a special proclamation issued by Birmingham Mayor William A. Bell recognizing Altec’s 85-year contribution to the city.

“Altec is extremely proud of our long relationship with the City of Birmingham and surrounding communities,” said Lee Styslinger III, Altec Chairman and CEO. “In 1929, my grandfather started the company with the foresight to understand that Central Alabama provided genuine economic opportunity and a population with a strong work ethic and solid core values. My father continued to expand and broaden that vision allowing Altec to eventually grow into a global company that now offers products and services in more than 100 countries throughout the world. As we celebrate our 85th anniversary, we appreciate our long-standing partnership with Alabama Power and all our customers.”

The facility renovations included investments in state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, including advanced laser cutting equipment, high efficiency paint line production and conversions to 3D engineering. These investments have allowed Altec to increase plant capabilities and expand job opportunities. In addition, renovations to office work areas significantly enlarged the facility’s administrative space. This rework allowed Altec to establish a call center to handle customer service needs from the entire Eastern and Southeastern U.S. Without the renovation and investment, the call center would have been located outside the city.

“Birmingham is currently undergoing a significant revitalization led by Mayor Bell, local government officials and community leaders,” said Styslinger. “Altec is pleased to be able to expand our contribution to economic growth in the region with our own revitalization efforts at our original plant in North Birmingham.”

Altec is a leading equipment and service provider for the electric utility, telecommunications, contractor, lights and signs, and tree care markets. The company provides products and services in more than 100 countries throughout the world.
