Simon and Bridget White, who run a family farm based near Boston, acquired the property in the village of Harrington in 2014 with the intention of establishing a commercial vineyard and winery. An initial 3.2 acre of vines have been planted on the south facing and well protected site which will hopefully prove perfect for producing both red and white grape varieties. It is hoped to expand this area in the future.

Mr. White had already put together a small fleet of equipment including a mini excavator, all-terrain tug and compact tractor but realised that an Avant machine would be able to play a multi-function role by using a variety of attachments from a current choice of over 150.

To start with, Mr. White has taken delivery of the 750 complete with a set of pallet forks for off-loading delivery vehicles, a bucket and a grab, the latter recently proving ideal for removing a large area of scrub and brambles. Also, once the plants are growing well, he hopes to develop a leaf cutter attachment for trimming off the side shoots whilst driving between the rows of vines.

Besides working on the vineyard itself, it is also planned to take full advantage of the Avant’s many talents when restoration work on a set of old farm buildings gets under way.

Commenting on the 750, Mr. White said: “I am really impressed with the performance of the machine and particularly its ability to lift one tonne loads with ease and I can already see we will be adding new attachments in order to maximise its use and effectiveness around the whole site.”
