Avondale switch to GreenMech and their SAFE-Trak technology

Avondale Environmental Services was established in 1992 to provide arboriculture services. Since then, it has expanded to provide a range of land and vegetation management solutions for high risk industries such as the rail, construction and highways infrastructure. To cope with the change in demand it turned to GreenMech and their SAFE-Trak products.

Avondale’s core business for the first 8 years was primarily grounds maintenance and tree work for local authorities and housing associations. With the development into other areas Owner and Managing Director Andy Back purchased four GreenMech SAFE-Trak 19-28 woodchippers to replace their old machines.  “We hired aGreenMech SAFE-Trak 19-28 for a particular job,” explains Business Development Manager, Paul Coutts-Smith, “and all the operatives were really impressed with its ability to access the toughest of work sites. The SAFE-Trak also tackled high volumes of difficult bushy brash with ease making the decision to switch to GreenMech relatively straight forward.”  Avondale’s SAFE-Traks are primarily used on Network Rail’s infrastructure in Kent and the surrounding counties. Paul again, “The variable track and tilt capability of these machines enables safe operation on nearly all terrains.”

The SAFE-Trak 19-28 is a powerful workhorse and comes fitted with a 50hp Kubota diesel engine.  It has a 190mm x 280mm letterbox-style infeed throat which provides a 190mm chipping capacity. The twin hydraulic feed rollers drag even the most awkward forked material effortlessly to the chipping system. It is also equipped with GreenMech’s patented ‘No-Stress’ electronic feed system and
Disc-Blade technology providing up to 150 hours of chipping before requiring re-sharpening. The patented SAFE-Trak system incorporates two independently adjusted track mounted legs.  By extending one track at a time railway embankments up to 35° can be traversed in complete safety. This award-winning track extension system allows for massive ground clearance of 600mm.
