BT Beton-Technik Brings New Wirtgen SP 1500 Slipform Paver into Operation

Slipform pavers from Wirtgen have a long tradition at BT Beton-Technik GmbH. Now the construction company from Lower Saxony has acquired another inset paver and immediately put the SP 1500 to use on one of Germany’s largest highway projects – the expansion of the BAB 7 highway between the Bordesholmer interchange in Schleswig-Holstein and the Schnelsen-Nord junction in Hamburg.

“The new SP 1500 replaces one of two inset slipform pavers of the same model that laid the concrete in two 15-meter-wide layers using stringlines, just past the Elbe Tunnel northbound,” said Mirko Pokrajcic, general manager of BT Beton–Technik GmbH. “The new machine’s predecessor carried out its duties successfully for many years. That’s why its successor is once again an SP 1500 from Wirtgen.”

The company uses steel bars to reinforce the bottom layer of concrete. The slipform paver in front is equipped with a dowel bar and tie bar inserter. “At first, the concrete truck pours the material in front of the first paver. It is then loaded into the hopper for the upper concrete layer by an excavator, transported over the first paver by conveyor belt and deposited directly in front of the second SP 1500, which immediately paves the upper concrete layer,” says Mr. Pokrajcic, explaining the process in more detail.

A TCM 1800 is always close behind the two machines. The texture curing machine from Wirtgen ensures that the concrete surface is cured professionally – as expected from a Wirtgen machine – by creating the desired surface structure and applying a dispersion to the concrete slab thanks to the integrated spraying system. It prevents the surface and the edges from drying out too quickly.
