CLAAS Round Baler 2017 Updates

CLAAS Adds New Round Balers to North American Product Lines

For many years, CLAAS has offered a strong selection of round balers to farmers across North America. In 2017 that selection expands with six new high capacity balers now in the mix.

VARIANT 400 Series: For many years, VARIANT 300 Series round balers set the industry standard with high-operating speeds, top bale density and superb chop quality with ROTO CUT models. In 2017, the next generation of VARIANT balers pick up where the 300 Series leaves off with even more heavy-duty components, faster throughput and easy-to-use features.

Five new VARIANT balers will be introduced with the 400 Series designation. The current VARIANT 360 and 380 Feed Rotor (FR) balers will be replaced by the VARIANT 460FR (48” x 60” bales) and 480FR models (48’ x 68” bales). Likewise, the VARIANT 360 and 380 ROTO CUT (RC) balers will be replaced by the VARIANT 460RC and 480RC. Finally, the VARIANT 465RC will be added to the line, featuring all of the specs of the VARIANT 460RC plus reinforced rotors, heavier-duty drive chains and a unique cutting floor that can be raised and lowered hydraulically in order to quickly clear obstructions.

The new VARIANT 400 Series brings plenty of new features to the mix including an updated net wrapping system with a unique steel plate guide that slides out of the way when not in use and an industry-exclusive “dust gap” design that prevents dust and debris from accumulating in the wrapping compartment for better performance and reliability. The new models accommodate extra-wide net coverage as well. Operators can choose net wrap that extends to the edge of the bale or extra-wide wrap that extends 2-3 inches over the edge of the bale. Switching between the two types of wrap is as simple as moving a couple pins.

Other enhancements with the 400 Series include an improved monitor layout, a moisture sensor and work/maintenance lights. An optional double roller above the pick-up – similar to those on JAGUAR forage harvesters and QUADRANT square balers – is also available for improved pick-up, faster crop flow, and increased throughput.

ROTO CUT (RC) models feature a new 360 helical spiral rotor which helps increase capacity and provide better bale shape.  The rotor also helps turn the start of the bale in even the most difficult conditions.

An automatic chain oiler now comes standard and lubricates all the chains. Automatic greasing is offered as an option for the grease points or a central grease block for less maintenance time.

For excellent productivity, clean and convenient wrapping, and densely-packed bales, the VARIANT 400 Series is a superior addition to the CLAAS round-baler lineup.

ROLLANT 620: The new ROLLANT 620 fixed chamber baler is a welcome addition to the ROLLANT line, featuring a modern new design and impressive features. Capacity, durability and higher bale density are the highlights of the latest ROLLANT model.

The ROLLANT 620 is a 4x5 fixed chamber baler that’s beefed up to bale virtually any crop. Instead of the simple feed rake found on the 260, the ROLLANT 620 uses a feed rotor to force crop into the bale chamber for easy bale starting and higher overall capacity in all types of crops. A reinforced chamber frame to handle the extra bale density, 17 new ribbed-steel rolls which are found in the ROLLANT 300/400 series, and heavy-duty chains and sprockets take on even the toughest crops. The new adjustable bale density control allows for more dense bales. An automatic chain oiler comes standard.

The ROLLANT 620 features automatic tying with net, twine or both. There’s even a pressure gauge on the monitor to verify the quality of the bales. Baler controls are handled by the time-proven CLAAS OPERATOR monitor.

For those looking for a rugged, high-capacity, high-density baler for tough crops like corn stalks or other thick stemmed grasses, the ROLLANT 620 delivers all that and more.
