Dana Enhances Engine Testing Capabilities

Dana Incorporated has enhanced the company's engine testing capabilities by opening a new test bench center at its research and development facility in Neu-Ulm, Germany.  The new 15,500 sq. ft. (1,440 sq. meter) center, on the existing campus, features three engine test benches, as well as test benches for hot gas and acoustic measurement.

The test benches include the latest testing procedures – and provide increased and higher quality data – which will aid Dana in keeping its customers ahead of the competition in technology advancements.

"Through these new, state-of-the-art test benches, Dana has a more efficient means for compiling and analyzing data as it relates to engine efficiency," said Dwayne Matthews, president of Dana Power Technologies.  "The updates to our test bench equipment are critical to making informed decisions about future technologies and will ensure our customers receive the superior quality, safety, and performance they've come to expect from Dana."

Through these test benches, Dana can test its complete Victor Reinz® sealing product portfolio, including gaskets, valve cover systems, air-oil separation technologies, heat shields, direct insulation parts, and more.

With its customer needs in mind, Dana ensured that the new testing equipment offered flexibility, allowing the company to test technologies created for a range of vehicle platforms with varying engine conditions.  Key highlights of the new equipment include tight integration of the control systems with the engine control unit, which allows better measurement and control of operational conditions of the engine, as well as the opportunity to use several different fuels.

This new test bench center is one of many Dana locations fitted with testing capabilities across the globe.  By having bench tests in a variety of locations, Dana can more effectively analyze its technologies and make adjustments as needed.
