At the 2023 Utility Expo, DICA will display its WorkForce™ Hole Covers to help contractors meet OSHA 1910.22 general requirements to protect workers and pedestrians from the dangers of open holes.

WorkForce Hole Covers are ideal for applications where digger derricks are digging holes for utility pole placement.  The hole covers are clearly marked with a rated capacity and include warning icons that indicate driving, walking, standing, or placing an outrigger foot on the cover is prohibited. The covers are lightweight and have handles that make it convenient for one operator to lift, carry, or roll into place. Compared to plywood, the covers reduce operator fatigue and lead to higher crew usage rates.

“When considering job site fall protection, it is important to remember precautions are not just for working at height. Unprotected holes can cause serious injuries,” said Kris Koberg, CEO of DICA. Holes are defined by OSHA as gaps or spaces in a floor, roof, horizontal walking-working surface, or similar surface of at least 2 inches in diameter.

The innovative covers are manufactured using engineered thermoplastic, making them strong and reusable, which eliminates the need for cut plywood covers that need to be frequently replaced. The Hi-Viz Yellow color of the cover makes it highly visible and allows users to distinguish the cover from surrounding surfaces. Standard sizes are 42 inches and 60 inches in diameter.
