India's Agriculture Scenario

Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India. It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, natural resource management and biodiversity protection are essential for holistic rural development.

Indian agriculture has witnessed a green revolution. For most of the 21st century India is expected to remain an agricultural society. The agricultural growth is improving rural incomes and securing India's food and nutritional needs. The increasing population, coupled with growing income will generate increased demand for food grains and non-food grain crops.

Initiatives by Govt. of India

In recent years much emphasis has been given by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on commercializing Indian agriculture. These include focus on potential areas, regionally-differentiated strategies, crop diversification, precision farming and scientific management of natural resources. The new initiatives in the form of National Food Security Mission and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana launched by the Ministry of Agriculture are aimed at rejuvenating this sector.

Adequate production and distribution of food has become a global concern. In a globalized economy, there is need to exploit the available resources to the maximum level and use the best internationally available technologies. This will help in coping with domestic demand for food and also contribute to international exports.

AgriBusiness Excellence Awards

AgriTech India will have the 2nd edition of AgriBusiness Excellence Awards. The ceremony is a token gesture of gratitude to professionals who transformed the essence of Indian food industry and made a mark in the Global market. Though a new addition to the series, it garnered huge response from the industry.

Concurrent Events
