Dumpers used on the island Wangerooge

The Georg Borchers company from Augustfehn is known for structural design and engineering construction for more than 75 years and employs more than 100 people. Right now the company is building 30 holiday apartments on the North Sea island Wangerooge. Before the construction even started a lot of preparations had to be realized. There are no car allowed on Wangerooge without a special permit, so dumpers are not allowed either. Furthermore all machines had to be carried to the building site by ferry boats, which requires small, easy transportable machines. At the beginning there was the establishment of a solid base therefore 3000 m³ mostly sand had to be moved 200-300 meters to the beach. Most of the time the vehicles had to drive on small, public streets or tiny roads when they got close to the beach. It was not allowed to drive too close to the preserved dunes. Thus it was necessary to have a vehicle that is small and has a high trough capacity. Besides those two points the vehicle must have a permit to drive on public streets because most of the distance between the site and beach are public roads.

As a well-known dumper specialist Bergmann Maschinenbau GmbH und Co. KG from Meppen, Germany was asked to build three dumpers. Bergmann is building dumpers and customized machines “Made in Germany” for more than 50 years and is thereby one of the leading and most innovative companies in Germany. Bergmann builds dumpers with payloads from 1.6 up to 12 tons and possesses the largest dumper rental service in the class of up to 12 tons dumpers. In 2013 Bergmann launched a new track dumper with payloads of 6 to 10 tons.

Bergmann sent two 3012 DSK three-way tip dumper and one 3009 swivel-tip dumper to Wangerooge. The 3012 DSK is the largest dumper in the class up to 12 tons payload. It is equipped with a 8.5m³ three-way tip bucket (DSK). Its flat construction allows a great overview while driving even when the bucket is loaded. The 3012 convinces with its modern design, a rotatable driver’s cab and its extremely high driving comfort. The comfortable and anatomically designed driver’s position with an air suspended driver’s seat and damper is not only convenient while driving on rough terrain. The air installation with pollen filter can be optionally upgraded with an air conditioning system. The newest generation of the 160 horsepower water cooled Deutz Diesel engine builds the centerpiece of the 3012 DSK. A ZF- converter gear in combination with ZF-axles guarantee a maximum speed of 45 km/h. The dumper can be ordered with rear wheel drive or part time four-wheel drive. Both axles have got a self-locking differential locking at 45%      

The Bergmann 3009R has got a 180° rotatable skip with a trough capacity of 5.6m³. With its payload of 9 tons the 3009R is the second largest Bergmann dumper in the class up to 12 tons payload. The driver’s caps design is the same as the one of its bigger brother and has therefore got the same great overview and driving comfort as the 3012 DSK. The rotatable driver’s cab is standard for all types of the 3000 series and allows you to drive for- and backwards without needing a U-turn.  Its articulated joint in combination with the suspended rear axle causes a great maneuverability and high stability against overturning. The well-balanced combination generates optimal traction and diving comfort. A 100 HP 4 cylinder Deutz Diesel engine builds the core of the Bergmann 3009R dumper. The 3009R is equipped with an automotive steering and hydrostatical four-wheel drive.

Bergmann’s main goal is to build dumpers which are compact and agile regardless of which payload. All dumpers have got all relevant safety regulations such as the ROPS-test, TBG – certificate, acoustical survey, German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) certificate for driving on public roads. High quality axles and hydraulic components guarantee a high economic efficiency as well as a long service life.
