ENTECO E9080 SP: The advantages of soil displacement on the venice-mestre (Italy) worksite

A new multi-storey car park has recently been opened in Venice-Mestre (Italy): this important project commissioned by Grandi Stazioni Rail sits on foundations executed entirely using ENTECO machinery.

The E9080 SP300 drilling rig constructed 191 piles with a diameter of 620 mm and a depth of 29 metres using SOIL DISPLACEMENT technology: these remarkable results were obtained with a technology in which ENTECO has always led the field.
When constructing an SP pile, the soil is not removed during boring but is compressed at the sides as the equipment advances (rotation and thrust).

The decision to use this lateral soil compaction (SP)technology was determined by the particular stratigraphy of the soil and the close proximity of the railway station and the urban environment: these factors demand even higher safety standards and impose restrictions in terms of noise and vibrations.

Compared to other technologies, like continuous flight auger drilling (CFA) or bored piles, ENTECO SP Soil Displacement:

  • Increases the capacity of the pile;

  • Produces a minimal amount of debris;

  • Eliminates material transportation costs at the end of the job, especially if the soil is polluted or contaminated;

  • Helps keep the working level clean and safe;

  • Reduces overconsumption of concrete to less than 10%.

The result is a considerable increase in dailyproductivityspeed of execution, worksite safety,economysilent operation.
