Equippo Infographic explains resale value risks – the new Fuel Quality Risk World Map

With the Fuel Quality Risk Map, we’ve analyzed data on current fuel quality all over the world. Comparing data on current standards with internationally scheduled fuel improvement projects, we’ve mapped which places in the world could operate Tier 4 Final / Stage IV engines by 2019.

Changing Standards for Heavy Equipment Fuel Quality

Recently, U.S. and EU standards tightened to require less than 5 PPM, or parts per million, sulfur content in diesel fuel. In many parts of the world, diesel fuel contains as high as 10,000 PPM. Operating IIIb / 4i as well as IV / 4f machines  machines with such high-sulfur fuel can quickly lead to  total engine breakdown after just a few hours of operation.

Will De-tiering Help Emerging Markets to Access Tier 4 Final/ Stage IV?

To meet this challenge, engine and equipment manufacturers must create de-tiering kits – manufacturer-approved engine modifications or additions that modify Tier 4 Final / Stage IV machines to handle high-sulfur content fuels. We reached out to contacts at a leading European engine maker for information on their de-tiering kits for high-sulfur markets. We’ve included the results in our Fuel Quality Risk assessment to help project which high-sulfur markets could operate Tier 4 Final / Stage IV engines with the help of de-tiering options.

Infographic Helps Machine Makers, Sellers, & Buyers

The Fuel Quality Risk World Map infographic sheds light on where buyers in high-sulfur markets can expect to operate new machines, and where manufacturers and resellers can hope to resell equipment in developing market.
