With TII Energy, the world market leader in the heavy-load transporter sector has expanded its product range in the Group in order to meet future "green energy" requirements: at the company headquarters in Dessau Roßlau, TII Energy GmbH & Co. KG develops and manufactures flywheel energy storage systems which are then used in the mechanical energy storage for stationary and mobile use. The short-term storage devices facilitate fast storage and access times with low operating costs. Ideal, for example, for storing braking energy and its subsequent release for the acceleration of vehicles or the smoothing of voltage peaks. These innovative approaches was greeted by an enormous demand at the InnoTrans in Berlin, the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology.
The common denominator of all Otto Rettenmaier´s companies in the TII Group is the provision of high-class engineering performances at the cutting edge of technology on a daily basis. The TII companies - SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG - are pioneers and world market leaders in the heavy-load transporter sector; the youngest member of the group, TII Energy, has set new standards in the field of mechanical energy storage solutions for stationary and mobile applications. "The expansion of the group through the founding of TII Energy in Dessau-Roßlau is an important strategic step in order to meet the international demand for innovative storage systems for the economical and ecological use of energy. Our flywheel accumulator technology allows energy to be saved and used which otherwise would be lost. Also the utilization for the storage and retrieval of dynamic energies for hybrid drives used in heavy load transport and driverless transport systems (FTS / AGV) is groundbreaking", according to Dr. Axel Müller, Managing Director of the TII Group. The TII Energy product range is aimed at, among other things, rail network operators, energy suppliers (smoothing of voltage peaks), operators of solar and wind power plants, crane and industrial installations as well as service providers in heavy-load logistics.
Furthermore, energy storage solutions from TII Energy can be used for the optimization of uninterruptible power supply systems, e.g. in hospitals. The range of services is complemented by the production of GRP bandages and comprehensive advisory services for energy storage concepts.
A typical TII Energy flywheel storage system, as was exhibited at the InnoTrans, consists of a centrifugal mass which is connected to an electric motor-generator combination by means of a shaft. In order to re-charge the storage system, the centrifugal mass is set in motion (motor function). The stored rotational energy can then be converted again into electrical energy when required (generator function). The advantages include very short access times, possible deep discharge, a high level of efficiency as short-term storage (up to 95%), low operating costs and excellent environmental compatibility.
"The advantages compared to accumulators are obvious: no toxic substances, a longer service life and improved efficiency", summed up Rainer Feldhaus, Managing Director of TII Energy. "Operators of electric rail network systems can benefit enormously from our energy storage solutions. Currently, huge amounts of energy and ultimately money are being wasted in these companies. As a result, we attracted tremendous interest among the visitors from the transport technology sector to our stand at the InnoTrans," added Feldhaus.
The new player of the TII Group: TII Energy is setting new standards in the area of mechanical energy storage systems for stationary and mobile applications.
When using modern energy storage solutions from TII Energy (the new member of the TII Group), the use of toxic substances is no longer required due to the utilization of the flywheel accumulator as well as providing a longer service life and improved efficiency. Energy which has been previously lost is now stored and used.
