“The entire Fendt Team is proud,” says Peter-Josef Paffen, Chairman of the AGCO/Fendt Management Board, expressing his joy over receiving the award. “Because there are no big design firms behind the machines at Fendt. We have a very successful in-house team of designers, headed by Tom Maier. For many years now, it has worked on the design of each individual tractor to give it a “Fendt face”. With the Fendt 1000 Vario, this team has once again succeeded in designing a tractor, which, as the world’s most powerful standard tractor, manages to convey both power and high-tech.”

41 international experts judge the products

Participants from 57 countries submitted some 5,200 products and innovations to the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. With 41 experts from all over the globe, who are selected according to the strictest rules, the Red Dot Award: Product Design guarantees a very high level of assessment competence. Only unaffiliated, independent designers, design professors and trade journalists are appointed to the jury.

Design as integral part of innovative product solutions

The independent board of expert judges evaluates each submission strictly but fairly, according to criteria such as degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “With their achievements, the Red Dot winners not only prove their exceptional design quality, but also show that design is an integral component of innovative product solutions.”

Fendt stands for quality and innovation

“Fusing tractor functions with a design that gives the machine appeal, is a very interesting and demanding task for us,” says Tom Maier about his work. “Fendt stands for quality and innovation. That has to be reflected in its design and workmanship,” says the Fendt Design Manager. This guiding principle is both tangible and visible in the Fendt 1000 Vario: the Fendt Life Cab features a pleasant soft-touch surface, a forward-facing camera on the bonnet was elegantly integrated into the Dieselross emblem on the up to 500-hp tractor.

The awards ceremony for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 will be held on 4 July 2016. Awards will be presented to some 1,200 guests at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen.

With around 2,000 exhibits from 45 countries, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents the entire bandwidth of contemporary product design. Objects that have been awarded the Red Dot are exhibited in the former boiler house of the UNESCO world heritage site “Zeche Zollverein”, a former coal mine, on five levels and an area exceeding 4,000 square metres. The world’s biggest exhibition of contemporary design informs 150,000 visitors annually about design trends and top achievements.

About the Red Dot Design Award:

In order to evaluate the variety of submissions in the area of design properly, the Red Dot Design Award is divided into three disciplines, Red dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The Red Dot Award is organised by the Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia. With more than 17,000 submissions in 2015 alone, it is one of the biggest competitions in the world. The first jury convened in 1955 to judge the best designs of that time. In the 1990’s, Red Dot CEO, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, developed the name and the brand of the award. The coveted Red Dot award has become a highly prestigious international seal for outstanding design quality.
