First one, then another – suspension on when driving, suspension off when working

STOLL completes its Comfort-Drive with a speed-sensitive automatic system

Suspension systems make journeys with the mounted front loader much more comfortable. They also minimise the material wear and tear. In order to effectively work with the front loader, however, it is better not to use this system. The front loader specialist STOLL has further developed its suspension system Comfort-Drive so that the driver does not have to continuously switch the function on and off. Now it is automatically controlled – depending on the driving speed of the tractor.

Electronically or manually – until now, drivers had to manually switch to the Comfort-Drive

There are currently two ways of operating the Comfort-Drive: electronically or manually. With the electronic solution, the driver can now switch the suspension system on and off from the driver’s cab with the touch of a button. When the Comfort-Drive is only manually controlled, the shut-off valve is located at the crossbar of the front loader. Every time the driver wants to turn the function on or off, the driver has to get out of the tractor. The result: During the work, the Comfort-Drive normally remains permanently on or off.

Comfort-Drive automatically switches on and off

In basic terms, the Comfort-Drive is particularly useful for transport and road travel. When undertaking loading work, however, the function dampens the handling immensely. The solution: the Comfort-Drive will switch itself on and off depending on the driving speed of the tractor.

A new electronic module constantly receives the most current driving speed through a signal socket specific to the tractor. In the basic setting, the Comfort-Drive switches itself on from 10 km/hr. If the driver goes slower than 7 km/hr, it will automatically switch itself off. “The speed-sensitive automatic system optimally completes our Comfort-Drive. We offer four different speed settings depending on its intended use. If necessary, the driver can continue to leave it permanently activated so as to concentrate on what is essential,” explains STOLL designer Stefan Strüning.

Reduced workload for man and machine

The new automatic mechanism reduces the workload of the driver, the tractor and the hydraulic system. The driver has less to think about when undertaking the work and is able to concentrate fully on the task at hand. As the Comfort-Drive switches itself on and off automatically, the operation mode is always ideal: There are no unwanted movements when handling the machine and the suspension remains active over rough stretches – taking care of both driver and tractor.
