Genie to showcase new Xtra Capacity™ and hybrid - and electric-powered booms at APEX

As part of its continuous focus on “Building the Future,” the Genie^® stand (#350/450) at the APEX 2017 tradeshow in Amsterdam from 2^nd to 4^th May will be showcasing innovations that concentrate on industry needs for increased lift capacities, as well as power systems that respond to today’s increasingly environment-conscious European market. All these developments focus on helping increasing productivity, rates of utilization and cost-effectiveness to support lower cost of ownership and improved ROI.

Genie products on display at APEX will include new Xtra Capacity™ (XC) booms, the hybrid Genie Z™-60/37FE fuel-electric articulating boom, the all-electric Genie Z-33/18 articulating boom, the bi-energy GS-3369BE and a compact Genie GTH™ telehandler, among other popular Genie models and accessories and unique services like Genie Service Solutions (GSS).

Interactive workshops highlighting the new technologies, such as zero load sense calibration, AC drive system and hybrid drive mode, will serve to highlight and demonstrate the brand’s latest innovations during the show.

New Genie Xtra Capacity telescopic and articulating booms

As part of the growing Genie Xtra Capacity family, these new XC models offer incredible ease of operational and increased lift capacity to perform a wider range of heavier lifting and access tasks on rough terrain using a single machine. Providing the ability to work with up to three people onboard while still leaving room for tools and jobsite materials, the new Genie XC telescopic booms offer more outreach and capacity than typical self-propelled booms of their size. Some of the new features of the Genie XC design, model specific, include a new mini XChassis™ system, a new hydraulic Telescoping Jib-Extend™ design, new low-maintenance load-sense cell technology that monitors the weight on the platform and disables function if the load exceeds the platform load limit, fast lift speeds, a 1.83 m (6-ft) steel platform or a 2.44 m (8-ft) tri-entry platform both with side-swing gate and the new Genie^® Lift Guard™ Contact Alarm.

Hybrid Genie Z-60/37FE fuel-electric articulating boom

A “true” hybrid machine, the Genie Z-60/37FE boom is a “2-in1” solution and a breakthrough that offers rental companies the choice of investing and managing their fleets differently. Equipped with high-efficiency three-phase AC electric drive motors, an AC motor generator and a 18.5kW Kubota engine, the hybrid Genie Z-60/37FE boom combines the power and durability of a diesel machine and the quiet, clean efficiency of electric units leading to true versatile application possibilities and therefore high utilization rates.

Intended for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications, even in tough rough terrain conditions, the Genie Z-60/37FE, while in “hybrid” mode, provides more than a week of run time with a single tank of diesel while maintaining the state of charge of the batteries. The hybrid system can also power the 4-wheel AC drive motors directly allowing the system to combine the power of the diesel driven generator and the 48V DC battery pack, maximizing performance when climbing hills and taking on some of the most rugged terrain.

Whenever environmental consideration is a key factor like in pedestrian areas or shopping malls, the ‘All-Electric’ mode of the Genie Z-60/37FE boom lift provides the ability to perform a full shift of operation on a single battery charge. For extreme usage conditions, or after heavy full-electric operation, the hybrid power system can provide a bulk charge within approximately four hours while the machine continues to operate.

As a true hybrid, when braking or descending inclines, this model uses regenerative braking to recover energy that is in turn used to recharge its batteries.

All-electric Genie Z-33/18 articulating boom

Offering excellent rental returns on invested capital (rROIC) at the entry level of the electric Genie articulating boom lift range, the Genie Z-33/18 boom is a simple, robust electric unit intended for both indoor and outdoor applications. Powered by an efficient three-phase AC electric drive system, the Genie Z-33/18 boom provides the ability to perform can provide a full shift of operation both indoors and out  ̶  on a single battery charge.

Weighing just 3,640 kg (8,025 lb)  ̶  which is nearly 1,500 kg (3,306 lb) less than other types of electric-powered unit, this all-electric unit is significantly lighter than traditional machines in the 12 m (39.4 ft) category which makes it ideal for applications on fragile indoor surfaces where reduced floor loads is very important, as well as outside duties – even on wet grass or freshly stabilized ground.

In addition to its quiet, zero-emissions performance and ease of operation, this machine is highly efficient thanks to long-working cycle batteries that need to be recharged less often and a three-phase AC electric drive system which requires less energy and costs less to maintain than units equipped with a DC transmission.

Bi-energy mode: a practical solution of the GS-3369BE

The bi-energy Genie GS-3369BE scissor lift offers two modes of operation. Its electric mode is ideal for zero emissions indoor applications. In bi-energy mode, the system activates the on-board generator to keep the batteries charged. Additionally, it features an integrated 110V/220V power point, through which electricity is provided by the generator. As a result, the machine does not rely on electricity on the jobsite and operators can power their tools directly from the machine. Equipped as standard with foam-filled all terrain non-marking tyres, it is ideal to work on unprepared ground outdoor and tiled indoor surfaces. Its active front oscillating axle system maintains continuous wheel contact with the ground to offer operators productivity and power.

As a result of its fully sealed electric drive system, it offers exceptional performance with less maintenance than hydraulic power systems. Thanks to its two drive modes, this Genie bi-energy unit performs productively from start to finish for unmatched rental versatility in a new generation of all terrain machines. Offering a working height of 11,75m (38ft), as well as providing a welcome power source on jobsites where electricity has not been installed, a click of switch is all it takes for operators to change its mode of operation to adapt to the evolving environment.
