During the GIANT open days in October the slogan “We built what you want” is regularly mentioned. The stone lifter from Cuperus is a perfect example. The machine is a combination of GIANT wheel loader with a hydraulic crane. It is used for laying heavy tombstones.
The stone lifter has been developed at the initiative of Cuperus. Managing director H. Wittink proposed the question whether it was possible to develop a compact, light machine with hoist system which is able to place heavy stones. The basis of the GIANT D204SW satisfied the demands of Cuperus. This model is very compact with a machine width of 95 cm and easy to maneuver. The machine is powered by four wheel motors, so each wheel is driven separately with a hydraulic motor. In addition, the machine has a differential lock. These two factors ensure that the machine holds grip on muddy terrain or loose sand.
To ensure safe working conditions, the crane is mounted on the front frame of the GIANT. The boom has been replaced by a flat plate on which the crane can be mounted. The crane is driven hydraulically, which is why the hydraulic system was adjusted accordingly. Four outriggers are mounted next to the crane which provide stability when heavy loads are lifted. The crane can be remotely controlled.
The stone lifter has a weight of 1700 kg and because of its compact construction it can be transported on a trailer. The maximum range of the crane is 4.77 meters. In this case, a load of 675 kg can still be carried. At a distance of 1.6 meters a tombstone of 2130 kg can be placed.
