Good relationships are key at Glendinning

The new 32 tonne loading shovel continues a trend at E & JW Glendinning Ltd who favour the Volvo product thanks mainly to good, long standing relationships spanning many years according to Operations Manager Richard Webb. “As part of an ongoing replacement programme we evaluated the market for machines in this size class,” says Richard. “To be honest though, when considering purchasing a Volvo you know you’re buying a quality product coupled together with the peace of mind one gets from Volvo’s after sales support network,” he continues.

Volvo loading shovels are a firm favourite with Glendinning’s operators especially with the cab interiors for comfort, ease of operation and excellent visibility. This latest L220H has been put into the custody of long standing employee Steve Elder who certainly appreciates the controllability, comfort and added luxury of Volvo’s optional CDC (Comfort Drive Control).

Launched at last year’s Hillhead exhibition, the L220H features a 13 litre stage IV final engine developing 373hp in a relatively low rpm range of between 1300 and 1400 rpm. The machine also benefits from Volvo designed and manufactured driveline components including optishift with torque converter lock up and reverse by braking feature – all designed to offer considerable fuel savings each shift. Fuel savings are further enhanced

by the Volvo Eco pedal encouraging the operator to run the machine at its optimum rpm in the engine’s torque curve.
In order to load limestone material as blasted into a primary mobile crusher, the new L220H has been equipped with a 5.0m³ straight lipped bucket with teeth and segments, Volvo’s optional ride control or boom suspension system together with Goodyear 29.5 x 25 TL3A tyres.  It has also been fitted with a Lincoln auto lube system and an RDS 8000 weigh loader. So configured the machine is also adapted to assist in stocking out duties as and when required.

This latest Volvo loader joins a fleet of predominantly badged Volvo loaders – one of which being a venerable L180D that has clocked up a staggering 34000 hours with the same original engine. It follows on from Volvo’s 50 tonne flagship loader the L350F that was delivered in July 2013.
