JOG Contractors Buys First Bobcat Compact Excavators

JOG Contractors Ltd, based in West Sussex in England, has purchased the company’s first Bobcat compact excavators in a six-machine order that includes the first new Bobcat E17 excavator in the UK from Bobcat of London, the Authorised Bobcat Dealer for London and the South East. Three of the new excavators - the Bobcat E17 and Bobcat E32, E45 and E85 excavators are working together on their first project, a new residential development in West Sussex. Purchased as part of a changeover from other brands to Bobcat, the new machines have all been well received by the operators at JOG Contractors and offer many advantages such as excellent operator comfort, increased digging power and lower fuel consumption.

Quality All-Round Service

Managing Director, Owen O’Grady, who founded JOG Contractors in 2009, commented: “Over the years, I have regularly used Bobcat machines from rental companies, but it was the performance of a Bobcat E80 model, the predecessor to the E85, that I used on a job 18 months ago that was a key factor in deciding to purchase the Bobcat brand for our fleet renewal.  I was also impressed by the fast response and service offered by Bobcat of London.

“Unlike many groundworks contractors, we believe in offering a high quality all-round service that begins with the greater efficiencies that new equipment such as the Bobcat excavators can offer, combined with their compact size, which is a major bonus as construction sites are getting smaller every year.  These start-of-the-art machines and our highly skilled operators are all part of the strict health and safety and environmental regimes we adopt on site.  These include our accreditation to the BS 8555 Phase 2 Environmental Management standard.”

According to JOG Contractors, the E17, which with a canopy and rubber tracks has an operating weight of just 1711 kg, is perfect for oversight work where a smaller machine is often required for work inside the shells of new buildings on internal drainage and other jobs.

Owen O’Grady added: “The E17 is a very competitive 1.7 tonne product, providing much more for less money than most 1.5 tonne machines on the market.  This is illustrated by a maximum digging depth of 2249 mm and maximum reach at ground level of 3871 mm, complemented by compact overall dimensions, with easy transportability further enhanced by new tie-down points.”

JOG Contractors is also very impressed by the E85 excavator.  The E85 model is powered by the Stage IIIB compliant Yanmar 4TNV98C-VDB8 Stage IIIB compliant diesel engine providing 44.3 kW of power at 2100 RPM.  Complementing the 10% increase in power over the E80 model, the new E85 excavator offers a much higher fuel efficiency, which is among the best on the market.

Owen O’Grady said: “We find the E85 a more useful machine on our site than bigger 13 tonners as the arm can be offset for digging which you can’t do on the bigger machines.  Overall we can carry out more work than with a 13-tonner and we use a lot less fuel.  The E32 is also an ideal machine for the smaller drainage jobs on site where we need a more compact machine and high precision.”

The E17, E32 and E85 are part of the comprehensive range of compact excavators from Bobcat for which West Thurrock-based Bobcat of London is the Authorised Dealer for London, Essex, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.  Bobcat of London (www.bobcatoflondon.co.uk) is also responsible in the same areas for sales and service of Bobcat compact loaders, telehandlers and attachments.  The company offers for sale over 70 different types of Bobcat attachments that help to deliver versatility and time-saving efficiency across a huge range of applications.
