Glamurous IFOY Award Night at the CeMAT in Hanover.
The IFOY Award 2018 in the "Special of the Year" category goes to the cross-technology battery charging system SLH300 from Jungheinrich AG, Hamburg. The cheering was overwhelming when Ralf Pätzold, Executive Board Member at Chep Germany, revealed the traditionally well-kept secret of the winner at the CeMAT opening ceremony.
Special of the Year 2018
“The new SLH300 platform is an easy-to-use plug & play solution for charging lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries for industrial trucks. The possibility of charging a range of technologies with just one system and in this performance class makes companies more flexible, because there is no need to choose one of the two battery technologies", the jury justifies its decision.
Such a system is particularly suitable for companies with mixed fleets or for switching from conventional lead-acid to more efficient lithium-ion technology. Converting the entire fleet to the new battery type is usually not possible. Nonetheless, SLH300 enables the gradual introduction of Li-ion vehicles without having to maintain two charging stations for different battery types.
Compared to the market, the IFOY Innovation Check not only rates the combi charger as innovative, yet as extremely positive in terms of functionality and performance.
The new SLH300 series includes several models, from a compact charger (24V/15A) to an 80V/170A charger. Their intelligence ensures efficient charging of both types of batteries with optimized service life: for lead-acid batteries using the battery module and for lithium-ion batteries via the integrated battery management system. The charging system monitors the status of the batteries and adjusts the type and duration of charging accordingly. As soon as the battery is connected to the charger, it recognizes the battery, its capacity and voltage. The charger also registers which optimal charging characteristics belongs to the connected battery, so that faulty charging is excluded. In addition, the chargers offer energy efficiency, which with a value of more than 90 percent belongs to the top of the market.
Even at peak values during charging, the test measured a constant 300 amps over the entire charging range. This is essential for the intermediate charging of Li-ion batteries, in order to guarantee fast charging of up to 85 percent.
The IFOY Award has established itself as an indicator of economic efficiency and innovation. Due to its specialised expertise it is regarded as the most important innovation award in intralogistics. The decision is based on the IFOY audit. The devices and solutions are subjected to individually tailored driving or function tests, including the IFOY test protocol comprising around 80 criteria and the scientific IFOY Innovation Check. In addition, jurors and their advisory teams assess the finalists personally before voting. Above all, it is crucial that the nominees are compared not with each other, yet with their competing devices on the market.
The IFOY Award, which is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, is presented by the Association for Materials Handling and Intralogistics within the VDMA. IFOY partners are CeMAT, the world's leading trade fair for intralogistics, Hanover, and Messe München with its trade fairs transport logistic, bauma and IFAT. Pallet partner of the IFOY Award is Chep, world market leader in the pooling of pallets and containers. The technology partner is battery charging specialist Fronius.
