MANN+HUMMEL takes full control of joint venture MICRODYN-NADIR

The filtration specialist based in Ludwigsburg has opted for a full takeover of a previous joint venture in Wiesbaden. This is consistent with its strategy of expanding its portfolio of water filtration products.

The MANN+HUMMEL Group (www.mann-hummel.com), which has its headquarters in Ludwigsburg, has increased its share in MICRODYN-NADIR in Wiesbaden from 50 to 100 percent. MANN+HUMMEL acquired 50 percent of the shares in MICRODYN-NADIR in May 2014. In line with its corporate strategy of growth outside the automotive sector, MANN+HUMMEL had already entered the water filtration market with takeovers in Singapore (Ultra-Flo, 2010) and Brazil (Fluid Brazil, 2012).

"This complete takeover is a step towards our goal of establishing MANN+HUMMEL as a major player in the water filtration business. We are certain that our new structure will allow us to respond more flexibly and quickly to the needs of the water filtration market in future," explains Alfred Weber, president and CEO of MANN+HUMMEL. "The product ranges of the two companies have very few overlaps, which means that they complement one another perfectly. The same goes for their geographic market presence: MICRODYN-NADIR has a strong position in Europe, the USA and China while we are well represented in South-East Asia and Brazil.“

MANN+HUMMEL has focused on polymer hollow fiber membranes, whereas MICRODYN-NADIR specialises in manufacturing and selling flat membranes. It is one of the world's leading suppliers of membranes and modules for micro-, ultra- and nanofiltration. The membrane division of the former Hoechst AG, which was previously known as NADIR Filtration, was founded in 1966. NADIR Filtration and MICRODYN Modulbau, which has its origins in AKZO AG, merged in 2003 and the resulting company has been an important player in the membrane market ever since. The company has a strong market position in the industrial and municipal water and waste water treatment sectors.

MICRODYN-NADIR's headquarters are in Wiesbaden and it also has subsidiaries in Xiamen/China and Raleigh/USA. Around 70 percent of MICRODYN-NADIR’s 100 employees are based at the company's headquarters and main production facility in Wiesbaden.

The MANN+HUMMEL membrane business will be managed under the MICRODYN-NADIR brand. MICRODYN-NADIR will continue to focus on the production and sale of membranes and modules. The ultrafiltration membranes manufactured by MANN+HUMMEL will be sold under the AQUADYN® product name, which is a registered trademark of MICRODYN-NADIR in Europe.
