Crewcab for the team
In its light variants the Atego with a permissible gross vehicle weight from 6.5 to 16 tonnes offers a choice of four power categories with the newly designed 5.1-litre OM 934 four-cylinder engines. These ultra-modern four-valve engines optimally cover the output range from 115 kW (156 hp) to 170 kW (231 hp). The higher output range for the Mercedes-Benz Atego is covered by the six-cylinder common-rail OM 936 engine with a power output from 175 kW (238 hp) to 220 kW (299 hp) and a displacement of 7.7 l in three power categories.
The drive power from the engines is transferred via automated Mercedes PowerShift 3 transmissions with six or eight gears, which feature as standard in Germany. Automated gearshifting is carried out conveniently via a pitman arm fitted to the steering wheel. The automated transmissions offer a choice of four different transmission modes according to the type of deployment for the vehicle: "Economy", "Power", "Off-Road" and "Fire Service".
The Euro VI Atego models with permanent or manually selectable all-wheel drive are ideal for operations requiring high levels of traction in public service and off-road scenarios.
42 different model variants are available in all, covering a broad range of wheelbases, three cab lengths and all-wheel-drive versions.
A modern interior awaits the driver inside the cab. The cockpit design matches up to the Actros, Antos and Arocs in terms of design, ergonomics and functionality. The Atego offers a high level of driving comfort as it is equipped with a multifunction steering wheel as standard and redesigned seats with integrated head restraints and armrests.
Show exhibits
At the IFAT 2016 show, Daimler is presenting an Atego 1321 L 4x2 with a crewcab and platform to show that this bodybuilder-friendly, manoeuvrable vehicle – here with a tipper body by Meiller, is also ideally suitable for municipal services.
The four-door crewcab, which features a completely redesigned entry with fold-out steps to the crew section, can accommodate four individual seats with adjustable backrests in the crew section. These all feature three-point seat belts anchored to the rear wall. The seat surfaces are foldable, allowing stowage space beneath the seats.
The exhaust system and fuel tank are installed under the crewcab to save space, and to avoid restricting the implement mounting space behind it. The steel crewcab for the Atego is 3228 mm long including the extended rear wall, and adds a weight of approx. 400 kg.
Mercedes-Benz is displaying two further Atego models in the outside area. These are an Atego 1323 LKO 4x2 with a road-sweeper body by Bucher Municipal and an Atego 1324 LKO, which is used by Küpper-Weisser as the basis for its hybrid road-sweeper.
