Vans. Be it a large van, a mobile workshop, an urban delivery van or a pickup truck – Mercedes-Benz Vans offers a broad product portfolio for a wide range of applications in the building and building materials industry. With a wide range of variants, safety systems and new networking solutions for logistics and transport requirements, they are pioneers in their class.
The new Sprinter: intelligent, interactive and innovative
Fascinating design, security features at a very high level, outstanding cost-effectiveness, customer and industry-oriented detail solutions and a new networking solution: the third generation of the Sprinter sets the rules in the large vans segment for vehicles between 3.5 t and 5.5 t permissible gross vehicle weight.
The construction industry benefits from the typical characteristics of the Sprinter: it is robust and has a long service life, it is practical and comfortable, powerful and economical. In addition, with its numerous versions, it presents itself as a tailor-made van: it can be ordered with a large number of variants and optional equipment – be that as a panel van, crewbus, platform truck, chassis cab or a crewcab. Among the equipment are trailer couplings with towing capacities up to 3.5 t, jaw-type trailer couplings, all-season or M+S tyres, various seating arrangements for the passenger compartment of the crewbus and much more besides. With numerous stowage compartments in the cockpit and options such as auxiliary heating or the backrest with table function, the van isn't just perfect for work but also for taking a break.
For the first time, the new Sprinter covers all three drive system variants – front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive – and can thus be optimally adapted to the respective transport tasks and driving profile. The new Sprinter also masters highly challenging routes, such as temporary construction-site roads.
The Sprinter 4x4 is also ideally equipped for more demanding exterior conditions. There is full integration into the adaptive stability program ESP, and ASR can be deactivated in defined handling situations, for example to increase traction on gravel roads, plus the higher body makes off-road driving easier.
With the market launch of the new Sprinter came the introduction of Mercedes PRO, a networking solution for logistics and transport requirements. As a beneficial feature for fleets, Mercedes PRO optimises communication between fleet managers, vehicles and drivers. The networking solution enables orders to be controlled online and vehicle information such as location, tank fill level or maintenance intervals to be queried almost in real time. Your benefits range from reduced downtimes thanks to predictive maintenance and repair management to clearly prepared data for business analysis. Fleets ranging from those of small businesses to major customer fleets benefit from the web-based service.
Vito and Vito Tourer – versatile multi-talents
Whether for tradespeople, the retail business or commerce, whether used for the provision of services, as a shuttle or a taxi: the Mercedes-Benz Vito medium-sized van adapts perfectly to a wide variety of requirements – including in the construction industry. As a panel van it serves to transport materials or proves itself as a service vehicle with workshop equipment. When it comes to moving people instead of materials, the Vito Tourer is the right choice.
With two wheelbases, three lengths and three drive variants, the Vito is the versatile all-rounder among medium-sized vans with a permissible gross vehicle weight of around 3.0 t. With its three lengths, Vito compact (4.90 m), Vito long (5.14 m) and Vito extra long (5.37 m), this van offers a wide selection. The particularly cost-effective WORKER Panel Van completes the portfolio.
The optional equipment items available for the Vito are unusually versatile in terms of their usefulness in the building and building materials industries. There are numerous door and window variants or roof rails with carrier bars. The load compartment can be fitted with a wooden floor, a rail system for load anchoring, lashing rails on the sidewall and interior panelling for maximum functionality.
Stay on the safe side: this is true not just on the construction site, but also with regards to the vehicle. The standard equipment of the Vito includes ATTENTION ASSIST and Crosswind Assist, which almost completely compensates for the effects of gusts of wind on the vehicle. Tyre pressure monitoring is also standard equipment for the Vito Tourer. In addition, the van can be individually equipped with other assistance systems, such as Active Parking Assist, the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST distance warning assistance system, Blind Spot Assist or Lane Keeping Assist.
The Vito can optionally be equipped with a versatile communication and infotainment system in the form of Audio 40 with 7-inch touchscreen and integrated navigation system. Other highlights include the DAB+ digital radio, Smartphone Integration via Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ as well as the Bluetooth® interface with audio streaming and hands-free functionality for distraction-free telephony while driving. Two USB interfaces make it possible to charge mobile devices while on the move.
Mercedes-Benz Citan: a master among its kind
The Mercedes-Benz Citan celebrated its premiere in autumn 2012. Like all other models bearing the three-pointed star, the smallest van in the range has been continuously developed and equipped with new features ever since. It has meanwhile become very well established on the market not only as an urban van but also as a small family van. Its success is based above all on the combination of high functionality and economy as well as excellent ride comfort and comprehensive safety features. The permissible gross vehicle weight of the van is between 1.8 and 2.2 tonnes.
The most popular model in the series is the panel van, ideally suited for construction site work. Thanks to its large doors, low loading sill and the generous loading space it offers, the Citan leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to loading and unloading. A wall-to-wall partition protects driver and co-driver in the panel van from slipping cargo or cargo falling over. To ensure that everything remains securely in place in the load compartment, the load can be professionally secured with the aid of lashing straps and the standard-fit lashing eyelets.
With numerous customisation options, the Mercedes-Benz Citan leaves virtually no customer wishes unfulfilled. As an alternative to individual extras, buyers can also select logically structured package offers. In line with this, the construction site package with reinforced tyres, underbody protection and fuel and brake lines with plastic protection is worthy of special mention.
Safety in urban traffic is taken care of by standard systems installed in the Citan, such as the ADAPTIVE ESP® electronic stability program, which takes into account the vehicle's load status, Brake Assist (BAS) and the ABS anti-lock braking system. Other assistance systems are also optionally available, such as the rear view camera, which displays the area behind the vehicle in the interior mirror.
Mercedes-Benz X-Class: robust pickup for a wide range of uses in the building industry
During the day on the construction site and at weekends for leisure activities – the Mercedes-Benz pickup is not just a commercial vehicle but also a comfortable vehicle for everyday use. The X-Class combines the typical characteristics of a pickup with the classic strengths of a Mercedes. It is robust, resilient and unfazed by off-road terrain. At the same time, with its handling comfort, driving dynamics, aesthetics, personalisation possibilities, safety features and networking, it offers passenger car qualities typical of the brand.
Its large track width (1632 mm at the front and 1625 mm at the rear), long wheelbase (3150 mm) and sophisticated comfort suspension with comfortable spring and damper settings ensure exceptional on-road performance with outstanding ride stability and higher cornering speeds. It was designed to achieve a high level of driving dynamics and comfort in on-road use and at the same time offer ideal off-road mobility in conjunction with four-wheel drive. The suspension consists of a double wishbone front axle, a multi-link rear axle with a rigid axle section and coil springs on both axles, all of which makes it ideal for transporting heavy loads. This combination provides excellent long-distance comfort and impressive ride dynamics. A further plus for long journeys is the high level of acoustic and vibration comfort.
The robust ladder-type frame provides the basis for the heaviest loads and toughest off-road assignments. Its closed profiled sections make it particularly stable and torsionally rigid. What's more, the rigid rear axle with its high axle twist capability improves traction in off-road conditions. Thanks to all-wheel drive, standard-fit low-range reduction gear and centre differential lock as well as optional rear-axle limited-slip differential, the X-Class masters difficult terrain with ease. For example, it easily climbs gradients of up to 45 degrees, fords water courses up to 60 centimetres deep and can master lateral inclines of almost 50 degrees. The X-Class also has a payload of up to 1.1 tonnes and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes. The width of the loading bed is designed in such a way that a Euro pallet can also be loaded transversely between the wheel housings.
Three equipment variants are available for the different customer requirements: the basic version PURE for classic, robust use; PROGRESSIVE for higher demands on quality and comfort; and POWER as a high-end version. Numerous items of optional equipment as well as a comprehensive accessories program are available for further individualisation. Depending on preference, the design, functionality or off-road capabilities can be further adapted to suit transport requirements even more closely.
The X-Class has a comprehensive range of comfort and safety features, exceptional for its segment, such as seven airbags for passive safety, and driver assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist, trailer stability program or a 360° Camera (optional) for active safety.
