New Trimble Ready Option for Doosan Excavators

To meet the increasing demand for grade control systems, Doosan Construction Equipment is collaborating with Trimble to introduce a Trimble Ready® factory option for Doosan excavator customers. The Trimble Ready option will be available direct from the factory through Doosan Smart Solutions for use with Trimble® GCS900 2D and 3D Grade Control Systems.

To promote the new offering at Intermat, Doosan is exhibiting one of the company’s DX235LCR-5 24 tonne excavators factory-prepared and equipped with a Trimble GCS900 3D Grade Control System.

The Trimble GCS900 Grade Control System gives operators access to design surfaces, grades and alignments on a display inside the excavator cab. The system uses GNSS, GPS, laser, sonic or total station technology to accurately position the blade or bucket in real time, significantly reducing material overages and improving the contractor's productivity and efficiency.

With the GCS900 system, the site plan and grade information can be displayed in the cab, so operators can finish jobs faster with minimal supervision, obtaining higher precision finishing with a reduced number of passes. In addition, there is no need to wait for subcontractors to provide survey and grade checking information, ensuring jobs are completed correctly the first time. This can reduce rework and the need for stakes, hubs or stringlines, which can also reduce costs and the risk of errors.

Use of a common grade control platform across an entire excavator fleet allows customers to port the system between machines and machine types. Flexible and scalable components can be used on a wide variety of machines for an even faster return on investment. In addition, productivity improvements can lead to reduced machine costs, while more accurate grading helps customers carefully control material usage and fuel costs.

The collaboration between Doosan and Trimble means that customers in Europe will be able to order Trimble Ready excavators to enable a faster and simplified installation of Trimble GCS900 2D or 3D Grade Control System components with no welding, re-painting, drilling or disassembly required. Trimble Control Boxes are not included and must be purchased directly from Trimble’s SITECH® dealer channel.

Doosan DX235LCR-5 Crawler Excavator

The performance of the DX235LCR-5 reduced radius excavator has been increased significantly compared to the previous model, including:

  • A 9% increase in engine power and a 5% increase in torque

  • An increase of around 13% in bucket force in both standard and boost modes

  • A 3% increase in arm force in both standard and boost modes.

  • Higher lifting capacities, up by 9% over the front and nearly 16% over the side

The DX235LCR-5 offers superior digging performance together with flexibility, convenience and low operating costs in a compact design with a minimum swing radius of 2310 mm. The DX235LCR-5 meets the growing demand for reduced radius machines for work near buildings and in confined areas. The trend towards reduced radius machines has been accelerated by the space premium on construction sites and, in particular, with road and rail construction, the requirement to keep adjacent lanes and track open while working alongside them.

The range of applications runs from general construction to renovation and refurbishment of roads, highways and other civil engineering projects, where a reduced radius is an important feature to minimise disturbance to surrounding traffic as well as the potential for damage to the surrounding environment. At the same time, the long carriage (LC) design of the DX235LCR-5 is intended to offer exceptional stability in all operating conditions, including heavy digging and lifting operations.

Increased Power and Fuel Efficiency

The DX235LCR-5 is powered by the well-proven 6-cylinder, turbocharged Doosan DL06P water-cooled diesel engine which offers convenience and lower costs by meeting Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies. The DL06P engine provides an output of 180 kW (242 HP) at 1900 rpm, an increase of 9% in engine power.

As well as the DL06P engine, which is one of the most reliable and fuel efficient ever produced by Doosan, new innovative and exclusive features have been introduced providing an overall 8% increase in fuel efficiency compared to the DX235LCR-3.

All current options including narrow tracks, short and long arms, shoes and hydraulic lines are available for the DX235LCR-5. The 2990 mm dozer blade option offers dramatically increased lifting height and digging depth, amongst the best on the market. An articulated boom is available with a choice of two arm lengths - 2400 and 2900 mm, the latter allowing a digging reach of up to 10 m. Particularly rugged in conception and equipped with an articulated cylinder fitted above the boom, the articulated boom has a very short swing radius of only 2545 mm, which allows the machine to swing in a very tight environment.
