The British Retail Consortium issued the Global Standard for Agents and Brokers Version 2, AA rating after an audit of P&O Ferrymasters contract logistics operation in Amsterdam in February. It is the ultimate guarantee of quality distribution services to the foodstuffs sector.

Frank Hesketh, Group Quality and Audit Manager at P&O Ferrymasters, said: “This prestigious certification illustrates P&O Ferrymasters’ unrivalled capacity to deliver first rate distribution services to the food and drink sectors, be it chilled or ambient-packed products.”

“P&O Ferrymasters was evaluated on five metrics: the commitment of senior management to continual improvement, our hazard and risk assessment, our product safety and quality management, our supplier and subcontracted services management and our personnel. The fact that we emerged from this comprehensive audit with the AA rating should give our customers even more confidence that we can deliver even the most complex and challenging foodstuff distributions safely and on time.”

P&O Ferrymasters’ foodstuffs business includes distributing large volumes of cocoa, starch and ingredients for infant products to Britain and other European countries.

P&O Ferrymasters is a leading pan-European provider of logistics solutions. The company serves 20 strategic locations in 12 countries across the continent, operating integrated road, rail and sea links via a fleet of 4,000 trailers and containers. P&O Ferrymasters also owns a rail terminal in the Romanian city of Oradea, which facilitates the onward movement of goods to Britain from Asian countries via the Silk Road.

The company is a division of P&O Ferries, which sails on eight major routes between Britain, France, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Holland and Belgium. It operates more than 20 vessels which carry 8.4 million passengers and 2.3 million freight units annually.
