The second billion-dollar resort and casino recently opened its doors in Manila with its initial inauguration held on December 14, 2014. City of Dreams is a joint venture of two major industry players—SM Investments Corporation and Melco Crown Entertainment from Macau. The US$1.3 billion resort had a second and more lavish launch celebration that coincided with the 2015 Lunar New Year festivities.

City of Dreams guarantees to present a new era of entertainment. Being a sister company to City of Dreams Macau, it assures world-class entertainment, with hundreds of gaming tables, more than 1,000 slot machines and electronic table games.

City of Dreams Manila is a 6.2-hectare complex, a casino resort which features a “Fortune Egg” dome with posh entertainment facilities. It also showcases a shopping area with an enormous floor area of 80,000sqm. Dream Works Animation will also have a business partnership with an amusement park named Dream Play within the premises. Inside the complex, one can experience six luxurious hotel towers including Crown Towers Hotel, Hyatt Hotel and Nobu Hotel. In keeping with the opulence and grandiosity of these towers, MHE Demag provided a mobile MHE Socket and Davit System to suspend their compact and space-effective Chameleon 1 cradle including construction of a catwalk for each of the six towers. The usage of this system is appropriate for buildings with simple geometry design and a straight façade.

The compact Chameleon 1 basket supplied to each of the towers by MHE Demag,  features the Syncrowinch, which is a two-rope winch system with an equal load distribution. It comes built-in with numerous safety features including shock absorbers and sensors. The sensor cautions both overload and underload weights. The rope layering system is used to avoid rope jumping with virtually no wear and tear of the wire rope. If a power failure occurs, a manual brake can be used for a descent at a controlled speed. A Syncrowinch also has a safety block with an emergency brake on each rope. It is a top mobile system which is designed and built in Switzerland. MHE Demag is the exclusive BMU supplier of Syncrowinch in Asia.

BMUs are intended to be permanently installed and dedicated to a specific building or structure to ensure a systematic suspension over an exterior or interior structure for maintenance and repairs of buildings.

The BMU project for City of Dreams Manila was spearheaded by President of MHE Demag (P) Inc., Mr Marc von Grabowski since January 2014. The project lasted one year.

Of the many technical challenges that the MHE Demag team had to overcome from the onset of the project was the height limitation of all equipment on the roof deck. Being near the airport, the restrictive height constraint posed a problem. In order to resolve this, the MHE Demag team utilised mobile davits that can not only be efficiently moved along the roof deck, but stowed away in a space saving manner as well.

MHE Demag remains a frontrunner for Building Maintenance Solutions in the Philippines. Five-star hotels, condominiums, shopping malls, office buildings and other buildings in the key cities of Metro Manila, Cebu, Tagaytay and other parts of the Philippines entrust their building preservation and repairs to the experience and expertise of MHE-Demag.
