Telescopic Loader Now with Even More Power, Torque and Comfort

In the summer of 2013, CLAAS presented a completely new telescopic loader model series with increased loading and hydraulic performance and improved driving dynamics and comfort. The current SCORPION range comprises eight models with lift heights of between 6.15 and 8.75 m and lift capacities of between 3.0 and 5.5 t. The entire range has been made compliant with the Stage IV emissions level in time for the Agritechnica 2015, with increased engine power and interesting comfort features.

In today's agricultural sector, the telescopic loader is the key machine used for materials handling – whether in the upper performance sector with a farm contractor, at a biogas plant or in conventional use on livestock farms for feeding and spreading straw. With the SCORPION, CLAAS offers a comprehensive range of telescopic loaders which have been specially developed for these types of agricultural application. These applications are characterised by frequent changes in driving and working conditions. Accordingly, a flexible powerplant and an optimal engine/transmission combination play a crucial role on a telescopic loader.

The drive concept

The new SCORPION is powered by a new generation of Deutz engines which fulfil the Stage IV (Tier 4) emission standard, as well as offering greater power and increased torque combined with excellent fuel economy. The two largest models, the 9055 and 7055, are equipped with 4.1-litre 4-cylinder engines providing 115 kW/156 hp, while all other models are equipped with 3.6-litre 4-cylinder engines with 100 kW/136 hp (at 2400 rpm as ECE R 120). All of the new engines feature emissions treatment systems with a combination of DOC (diesel oxidation catalytic converter) and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) using AdBlue.

SMART ROADING

CLAAS offers the possibility to automatically lower the diesel engine speed by approx. 15% as a standard feature with its SMART ROADING concept. An important aspect of the SCORPION drive concept is the intelligent hydrostatic VARIPOWER drive, which constantly and automatically coordinates speed and thrust on a continuous basis up to a maximum ground speed of 40 km/h. SMART ROADING ensures that the diesel engine is driven at its optimal operating rate, continuously and automatically. This leads to reduced fuel consumption and less noise development with no change in performance – whether during loading work or when driving on the road.

The cab - Improvements in detail

The cab also "gives away" the new models. Details like individually adjustable, offset steps and an additional handle on the B-pillar facilitate entering and exiting the vehicle, an activity which isn't exactly rare in view of the varied usage possibilities of a telescopic loader. Another new feature for the 9055 to 7044 models is that the FOPS protective grille is now designed with longitudinal struts and CLAAS has fitted it on the outside of the full-length windscreen. This improves the upwards visibility of the driver, particularly when working at heights.

Display instruments with various colour designs are another eye-catching feature within the cab. They help the driver to quickly assess the situation by displaying the current operating conditions of the machine.

SMART HANDLING

A standard feature on CLAAS telescopic loaders, this concept stands for operational safety and various automatic convenience functions in different operating modes. A distinction is made between four operating modes: Bucket mode, stacking mode with vertical lift and manual mode. In all operating modes, SMART HANDLING causes the loader's drop rate to adjust to the weight and angle of the load. A further automatic function of SMART HANDLING is the bucket return feature. One press of a button moves the equipment to a particular position within the tilting angle, which can be automatically returned to again and again while working.

The new SCORPION with Stage IV emissions level is being launched on the market at the Agritechnica trade fair.
