Synergy - The transverse nature of the functions

The New12MTX gives another dimension and an added “s” to “performance”. Not only does it make it possible to have an excavator, a loader, a forklift and a tool carrier in a single machine, but also to augment the capacities of these functions due to the specific characteristics such as the articulated boom and frame, the lowered centre of gravity, the rotation of the superstructure, and the cab mounted on the right-hand side. With the New 12MTX numerous features have been combined in order to increase the performance of each function.

Digging

With its slight, well integrated boom-offset and 3-piece boom allowing to work outside the machine’s clearance, it combines power with agility. No matter if working beyond an obstacle or close to a wall, the New 12MTX is always capable to dig with high efficiency and exceptional economy of movement.

Loading

With a lifting angle of 140°, the kinematics of the Mecalac articulated boom enable the setting of loading and unloading manoeuvres without the drivers’ view being limited by the movement of the bucket. And the wide range of motion of the New 12MTX offers the driver complete freedom of action, no matter if working in static position or slewing the upper structure.

Handling

With a vertical lifting range from +6 m to -3 m, the New 12MTX can discharge a load directly into a swimming pool, onto a foundation, etc. The machine can withdraw the forks gently and leave the pallet in place. The articulated boom makes it possible to handle the items placed on the pallet as close as possible to the machine.

Quick coupler

The New 12MTX combines comfort and precision in the application of hydraulic attachments, hereby benefitting from technologies having been developed for its digging and loading functions. The Mecalac boom allows the attachment to be positioned in the best way to apply its forces in the right direction, to protect the equipment and to limit the footprint of the machine on public roads. The articulated chassis yields a sheer perfect manoeuvrability, reduces unnecessary movement and allows for effortless travel.

Innovation - An essential part of Mecalac's DNA

For every new Mecalac machine there are patents applied for. The company devotes about 6% of its annual turnover to its R&D Department for the design and development of its machines. Following this tradition, also the New 12MTX benefits from further exclusive Mecalac features.

A single selector: A gesture that changes everything

A single selector – a unique Mecalac feature – enables the 12MTX to change configuration instantly. With an obviously simple gesture the driver sets the controls to those of an excavator or a loader - with all its functions combined and “ready for use”. Equally easy it can be put into parking or driving mode. At the flick of a wrist a construction site will benefit from increased responsiveness, safety and thus profitability.

Speed control: Always at the right speed when needed

Why make concessions between constant output and precise forward travel? The new Mecalac speed control system offers an extremely accurate, continuous adjustment of the maximum speed: from 0.3; 0.6; 0.9 km/h and so on up to 32 km/h. The driver has full control over the travelling speed of his machine and can use 100% of his concentration for the attachment he is operating. This new feature, which is easy to set, enable and disable, is boosting the use of the New 12MTX as an ideal tool carrier.

Ectendable steps: Increased safety

Getting in and out of the cab is one major reason for many on-site accidents. In 2016 it is no longer suitable that drivers are climbing onto wheels and slipping. Now there is a new patented solution from Mecalac, which comes as a standard on the New 12MTX. A step is automatically driven out when the operator raises the console to leave the cab. When extended, the step positions itself directly under the feet of the driver. In the retracted position, it is perfectly incorporated within the shape of the machine, without affecting its manoeuvrability.

Innovation rewarded - The French Design Award

“Etoile de l’Observeur du Design 2015” “The creative talent of the designers, their ability to anticipate trends and to detect emerging requirements also enables them to offer new experiences and new scenarios of application.” Anne-Marie Boutin, Managing Director of APCI – Agence pour la Promotion et la Création Industrielle (Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Design). At the ceremony for the “Etoiles de l’Observeur du Design 2015”, which took place at the “Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie” in Paris, there were 29 achievements out of 150 competitors that were rewarded, including the New 12MTX from Mecalac, which received an “Etoile du Design” from the Minister for the Economy, Design, Industry and Information Technology on 9 December 2014. The Design Stars honour the provision of design in everyday products and services, both for their technical and practical aspects and for their aesthetics. The New 12MTX was shown at the “Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie” in Paris until 1st November 2015, within an exhibition bringing together the 150 prizewinning achievements.

Simplicity - Man as the motor of the construction site

Simplicity of use is at the heart of each development project at Mecalac. It is out of question that machines, however sophisticated they may be, may “exceed” the human being who controls them. Facilitating the driver’s work by reducing the number of consecutive commands he needs to execute, by offering an “all-in-one” feature, which not only saves time but also provides driving comfort. That is the constant challenge for an engineer at Mecalac. The simplicity of the machines’ extraordinary versatility is probably one of the most remarkable assets of the New 12MTX.

Effortless whether in parking or road travel mode

Using a single selector switch the driver can move from excavator to loader mode, or from driving to parking mode – all in just one flick of a switch, thus being spared to have to perform 7 to 10 essential commands. He no longer has to worry about turning on the headlights or the rotating beacon, unlocking the oscillating axle or checking the machine status on the display, when starting. And he can stop thinking about the brake, putting the gearbox in neutral, disabling the accelerator pedal and locking the controls when he stops. Everything happens instantly by selecting the desired configuration. Thus a flawless machine operation and highest safety on construction sites will be guaranteed.

Keeping control

Quite simply the operator keeps permanent control of his machine. One control, located on the joystick, is a loader interface which enables him to select the direction of travel. In addition he manages the engine speed by foot, using a slow approach (inching) pedal which also serves as the driving interface. To optimise ease of driving the joystick gives him instant access to all functions without releasing the controls. The driver can swing the upper structure and thus control the New 12MTX practically with his fingertips.

Having a memory

Due to the electronic storage of performance values of multiple hydraulic attachments, the tool carrier function is even more efficient on the New 12MTX: you can keep up to 6 different output/attachment ratios in the memory for a simple, fast, intuitive change which facilitates the driver’s work, does away with time required for reconfiguration and has a positive impact on productivity as well as working comfort.

Supervised driving

Mecalac’s patented and unique cylinder coupling function offers outstanding coordination and precision in the movements of the boom equipment. As it can be selected for digging and loading it facilitates driving and handling whether the operator is a novice or an experienced driver. Whether engaged or disengaged, Mecalac’s cylinder coupling is an effective operating assistant and provides a great deal of driving comfort.

Intuitive and precise navigation

With the New 12MTX, the driver can’t go wrong. Each function is displayed in real time on the 7’’ colour screen of the programmable on-board computer, whichallows the personalisation and memorisation of driving settings for 3 different drivers as well as the factory setting. In addition the consoles on the left and right provide great practicality in the use of many functions and options shown by easily legible, comprehensible pictograms. As for the single selector – an exclusive Mecalac function – it makes it possible to move from excavator mode to loader, parking or road mode in a single gesture.

Safety - Everything but an option

Optimising safety for the operator and all the site personnel was on the top line at the list of requirements for the New 12MTX. Mecalac’s answer? To minimise the risk of accidents by fitting the New 12MTX with innovative equipment as a machine standard. In addition to the cab located on the right-hand side and machine maintenance able to be carried out from ground level, now locking the axle oscillation by activating the brake pedal helps to secure the machine automatically whilst the driver focuses on his work. The entirely new extendable mounting step is added to the already extensive range of standard safety equipment on the New 12MTX. As for a rear view (and/ or side view) camera which can be added as an option, it is interfaced with the machines’ 7’’ colour monitor displaying the camera images as soon as the reverse gear is engaged.

5,7 M2 of clear view

Permanently keeping an eye on your working attachment, whilst remaining focused on the site environment, is a heavy responsibility. For the new 12MTX we have made visibility a priority. A fresh look has been taken at every detail in the cab in order to optimise direct vision: at the rear the lines of the engine hood have been studied and the rounded window is now of one piece, in order to give an unencumbered view. The lifting system for the Mecalac boom, once folded, gives a clear side view. With the 2-piece retractable windscreen and the opening door window the driver remains in permanent contact with the outside. And with its multi-adjustable steering column the steering wheel is never in the visual perimeter of the working area. Rear view mirrors and optional cameras complete this full visibility.
