The Sinopec Quanzhou Refinery Construction Project: the XCMG 2000-ton Crawler Crane Plays the Leading Role

On August 1, mettlesome in bearing, a XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane entered the construction site of the Sinochem Quanzhou Huian 1200- ton/year refinery construction project (which was undertaken by the Tenth Construction Company of Sinopec), and worked in close cooperation with a Liebherr 750- ton crawler crane to hoist and put in place an approximately 4.5-meter- diameter and 8-meter-long residual oil first reactor (which weighs 740 tons), in spite of the site, wind, mid-summer heat and other adverse environmental constraints. Following the successful lifting operations conducted by the XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane for the petrochemical engineering projects in Wuhan, Hubei and Maoming, Guangdong, this hoisting operation in Quanzhou again turned out to be a strong evidence which demonstrated the strength and advantages of the XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane!

With the assistance of several patents and proprietary technologies, including the self assembly and disassembly split turntable technology and other key technologies in particular, the XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane easily overcame the limitations of the narrow construction site and entered the site as scheduled. Many engineers, through conducting repeated discussions, explorations and feasibility studies, finally decided to use the dual-crane delivery and lifting method. The XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane served as the main lifting machine, and worked under the operation mode which applied the 54-meter main arm ultra-lifting-radius and16-meter lifting radius. (This operation mode allows the maximum rated lifting capacity/weight of 745 tons, which means that the loading rate of this operation reached as high as 85.2%.) The Liebherr 750-ton crawler crane, throughout the lifting process, using the 42-meter main arm and 12-meter radius operation mode, acted as the slide tail crane to assist with completing the task. The moment when this operation was successfully completed became once again the historically important moment in the crane industry.

At 14:30, the originally hot weather suddenly changed and the wind started to whistle and blow, which posed another big challenge to the hosting operation. After the command was given, the XCMG 2000 –ton crawler crane worked closely with the Liebherr 750- ton crawler to slowly lift the residual oil first reactor (which weighs 740 tons) to a certain height. And then, as the main lifting machine, the XCMG 2000 -ton crawler continued to lift the reactor until the reactor was smoothly erected. After that, the Liebherr crawler crane was decoupled and the XCMG 2000 -ton crawler travelled a distance in the lateral direction under the load of the reactor before firmly hanging the heavy reactor over the base. The reactor, with the staff’s assistance, was then successfully put in place and installed. The entire process lasted only one and a half hour. Whether in the process of hoisting the reactor, travelling under the load of the reactor or installing the reactor, the XCMG 2000- ton crawler demonstrated excellent stability, reliability, smoothness and micro-mobility. Competing with the Liebherr 750-ton crawler crane, the international giant, gave the XCMG 2000 -ton crawler crane an opportunity to create a brilliant record for the excellent application of the domestically-produced equipment.

It is reported that XCMG 2000- ton crawler crane is the largest ton-level lifting machinery owned by Sinopec currently. The crawler is described as the leading machine and very contributive. For completing the Wuhan petrochemical project, the XCMG 2000-ton crawler continuously worked for 10 months non-stop on seven construction sites with excellent performance in each large-scale hoisting operation. In June, the crawler conducted full load lifting operations for the Maoming Petrochemical, reaching record high and winning the sincere trust of the users of Sinopec. This time, for completing the Quanzhou refinery project, the safe and efficient operation conducted by the XCMG 2000- ton crawler crane again impressed everyone on the site of the hoisting operation. According to the site operator: there are nearly 124 oil residue reactors owned by other petrochemical projects waiting urgently to be lifted and installed, of which one reactor weighs 1200 tons. For this reason, the XCMG 2000 -ton crawler crane will continue to have opportunities to display its prowess to create wonderful records once and again for the domestically-made large crawler crane equipment.

Gong Jinqi, the 2000 -ton crawler crane operator of the Tenth Construction Company of Sinopec said: "The XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane has successfully undergone the relevant tests. Its technologies, performance and other indicators are stable and reliable. The crawler is able to meet our lifting construction needs."

Since the inception of the XCMG 2000-ton crawler crane, it has actively participated in the petrochemical, power and other large-scale domestic engineering construction activities. It has not only broken the monopoly of the foreign brands in the domestic large tonnage crawler crane equipment market, but also established its own dominant position. In addition, it largely affirms the abundant experience and significant accomplishments that XCMG has accumulated and made in the past 20 years.
