“The World’s Most Powerful Crawler Crane” Made in Sany– Sany’s SCC86000TM 3600-ton Crawler Crane Rolls off Production Line

On May 18th, 2011, the world’s largest crawler crane – the Sany SCC86000TM, 3600-ton crawler crane rolled off the production line. The giant crane is dubbed “No. 1 crane in the world” in the industry. On May 29th, a ceremony and a launch conference were held by Sany Heavy Industry in its industrial park in Kunshan city. Reportedly, the Sany SCC86000TM 3600-ton crawler crane is the first of its kind in the field of super-large crawler crane R&D and manufacturing in China. The successful development of this machine is a symbol that Chinese crawler crane manufacturing is among the best in the global crawler crane industry.

Patents applied internationally for series of technologies in this machine
The maximum lifting moment of Sany SCC86000TM crawler crane reaches 86,000 ton meter, and its maximum lifting capacity is 3,600 tons. The SCC86000TM has surpassed all existing 3200-ton crawler cranes in the world in these two key parameters. A number of advanced design methods were adopted in the R&D of this crane, such as limit state designing method, digital prototyping, modular design(support standard container transportation),Top-Down designing method and so on.

Traditional difficulties such as nonlinear and large deformation analytical method on metallic structure design have been overcome. Furthermore, Sany’s R&D team has adopted the high danger coefficient in the R&D of this crane, which is recommended to be used in the R&D of special-purpose cranes for the nuclear industry according to the GB3811-2008 standard. They have also made substantial breakthroughs in aspects like structural design and control system. Up to now, Sany has applied for 30 patents of invention, among which the single boom section technology adopting dual main chord and dual super lift crawler carriage technology have been submitted to apply for international patents of invention in countries like Germany and the US. According to some industry experts, Sany SCC86000TM 3600-ton crawler crane is regarded as “the most technologically advanced crawler crane with the largest lifting moment in the world to date.”

Xiang Wenbo, president of Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. said that the new SCC86000TM 3600-ton crawler crane will be mainly applied in nuclear power projects in China.

Industry-leading Crawler Crane

In 2003, Sany Heavy Industry set up the most powerful R&D team in the world with its 500 members coming from both China and America, and created the most advanced production line for making crawler cranes. To develop the SCC86000TM (3,600 tons) crawler crane, Sany Heavy Industry invested RMB 100 million yuan in building the first supercomputing center in the industry. Moreover, it independently made analog simulation software for lifting operations and employed internationally cutting-edge processing and testing facilities. At the product research stage, Sany adopted many suggestions from experts in the industry and organized technical evaluations. Professionals from State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd., China Nuclear Engineering Group Co. and other institutions and units have offered valuable support.

With strong R&D and manufacturing ability, since 2006, Sany has successively refreshed records for crawler cranes made in China. Before Sany entered this industry, China has never produced any crawler crane above 350 tons. It is Sany that developed crawler cranes of 400 tons, 450 tons, 630 tons, 800 tons, 900 tons and finally made today’s 3600-ton large-size crawler crane. In 2006, the first 400-ton crawler crane in China, known as “No.1 Crane in China”, rolled off the production line in Sany. In 2010, this very crane participated in the rescue of trapped miners in Chile, becoming a symbol of “made in China”. In June 2006, Sany SCC6500 rolled off the production line. In 2008, “No.1 Crane in Asia” – the first 1000-ton crawler crane was produced in Sany.

In 2010, the 1600-ton crawler crane Sany SCC16000 was launched and used for lifting parts to build nuclear power plant. On May 27, 2011, Sany’s 1000-ton crawler crane lifted parts for constructing Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in China. Sany’s 1000-ton super-large crawler cranes SCC10000 and SCC16000, the only Chinese-made crawler cranes that can be used to hoist key parts of nuclear power plants including nuclear island and dome, have been employed for 8 times for similar tasks. The successful launching of SCC86000TM today indicates that China has developed the world-class ability to research and manufacture super-large-tonnage cranes, and it will make greater contribution to upgrading the industry.
