The General Contractor construction of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 (Leningrad NPP-2), situated in Sosnovy Bor, near Saint Petersburg in Russia, announced a tender for the purchase of a lifting equipment for the maintenance of firefighting systems inside the reactor hall dome, located at a height of about 39 m.
The rules of exploitation of the nuclear power plant required the aerial platform to enter the reactor hall only through a transport gateway on a trolley. Once entered, the machine was needed to undergo a purification system with tightly closed doors in a locking mode.
The most complex aspect was that the internal dimensions of the transport gateway, which is so narrow that any of the existing Aerial Platforms on the market with the required working height could enter.
Vertex, Palazzani Dealer in Russia, asked Palazzani Industrie to study a special machine, starting from RAGNO TSJ 39, with customized mofidications. After a long study and design drafts, the solution was found.
The project was approved and adopted by JSC "St. Petersburg Research and Design Institute "Atomproekt " and in June Palazzani TSJ 39 ENP Electric was supplied successfully.
The unit is totally electric, since it works inside the reactor, without the undercarriage, because once entered into the reactor hall through a trolley on rails, their special stabilizers are fixed to the floor in a total set-up of 3x4 m. The boom is special, raised at a certain angle with software and mechanical lock
The machine was painted with special coating that withstands decontamination solution during processing.
This machine has been designed and certified according to TR CU standards and then verified by the Institute of Research and Design JSC of Saint Petersburg.
